The biggest problem with democratic ideology may be a shift from

we-centric thinking to me-centric thinking.

By we-centric thinking I mean consideration of others in the broader impacts of our decisions and behaviors

By me-centric thinking I mean defaulting to exception finding, appeals to exceptions that release the 'me's ' from consideration of the broader impacts of our decisions and behaviors.

I suppose the me-thinking of the me-generation ultimately had to have this sort of impact.

Whether it concerns stigmatizing, racist, or hate speech
whether it concerns obeying laws, speeding, drug use
whether it concerns population control
whether it concerns carrying hand-guns or limited size magazines..
whether it concerns reducing carbon footprints...

There is always a group of dems to step up and say "No, I won't...in one or more ways my circumstance/beliefs/exercise of freedom makes me exceptional".

And I am not wanting to generalize. It's certainly not everyone on anyone topic not a majority, but collectively, I think it's a significant percent somewhere north of 30%
