One of the things that creeps me out the most about the repuke war on choice

is the emphasis on degrading and demeaning women through any means possible, and treating women as if they were children who shouldn't have the right to make decisions about their own bodies.

Waiting periods, transvaginal ultrasound, forced viewing of ultrasounds or forced listening to the heartbeat, feeding women false information about the "dangers" of abortion, and on and on.

It's ridiculous that the loss of this vital right- and yes, it's largely lost- has vanished with so little fanfare.

Do you think it's one of those issues where no one will miss it until one is needed? No one will understand the massive significance that having the right to control one's own body has in the grand scheme of things? That true equality for women can NEVER be achieved without having that right?

I'm not sure, myself. I stay heartsick over the fact that most of the younger generation of women that I know are not interested in fighting for this right. It's like these young women are perfectly content to go backwards to a time when women are basically ruled by men.

I don't get it. I continue to fight for the right and I'm at an age where I will never need one!

I completely agree that women cannot enjoy true equality without abortion rights. It's intrinsic to equality.

I think one of the reasons this has happened is that most middle class and all upper class women will always be able to get an abortion.

As a male, I cannot know what it is like to be a female.
As a white male, I cannot know what it is like to be a non-white.
As a straight white male, I cannot know what it is to not be straight.

But my wife and daughters are female and I have gay and non-white friends. Even though I cannot be the other I know that an injury to one is truly an injury to all.

How do we make others aware that an attack on anyone is an attack on all?
