ESPN host Stephen A. Smith says that if every African-American voted Republican for one election, it would send a strong message to the GOP that their vote is important.
What I dream is that for one election, just one, every black person in America vote Republican, Smith said Tuesday during an appearance at Vanderbilt University, according to audio published by Breitbart.com.
During the 2012 presidential election, an overwhelming 93 percent of black voters supported President Barack Obama, while just 6 percent voted for Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
Black folks in America are telling one party, 'We dont give a damn about you, Smith said. Theyre telling the other party, Youve got our vote. Therefore, you have labeled yourself disenfranchised because one party knows theyve got you under their thumb, the other party knows theyll never get you and nobody comes to address your interest[s].

(4,112 posts)in his condemnation of Tom over "deflategate" - and we all see that's gone absolutely nowhere. I still think it was someone on the Colts team that did the tampering, if there was any at all. He was calling for Tom's (and Bill's) immediate suspension. Screw him.

(56,177 posts)it was the NFL official who told the Pats attendant to give it to the ref...the NFL official who was fired right after? That's because he wanted to sell a ball that could be advertised as a ball that was actually used in the game for some "charity"

(4,112 posts)report issued citing hundreds of psi tests in all kinds of weather conditions, none of which have anything to do with the actual footballs used that day. The report will be issued on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, stating that there were no conclusive findings and thus no penalties levied. Lay odds on it! A great big nothing-burger.

(4,112 posts)ESPN - I think there were three different "bombshells" - turned out to be either wholly or materially wrong. I know there was one story that was actually removed from their website, but everyone else was still running with it because they were using "attribution" rather than their own reporting. Sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it?

The GOP has gotten so extreme that they have become joyfully and cruelly misanthropic - even to those people they are "courting".

I consider them to be the anti human party.
They only care about fetuses, money, power, and religion (the Christian religion).

What he obviously doesn't understand is that the reason the very vast majority of black voters vote Democratic, is that they do understand which party is closer to having their best interests in mind.

(10,362 posts)We take the AA vote for granted. It has often caused the black community to be neglected.
After all, why spend political capital wooing those who we expect to vote overwhelmingly for us? It's sad. His comments cannot be dismissed so easily because they make us think about how we treat AAs.

(16,113 posts)something they want (money or votes). If they're sure they'll get either from you, or sure that they won't, they'll move on to a group that's on the fence and do what they can to sway them.
Organizations that always get what they want from politicians (like major corporations) play both sides of the aisle.

(10,362 posts)Money is political influence in this country. It's why blacks have so little real representation, even with a black president. That will take a long time.
You point out a serious problem. There is no easy solution.
The real problem here is that Republicans aren't even competing for their votes, so blacks are stuck voting for one party no matter what.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)and with the republicans not only not competing for, but actively shitting on black voters, it leaves very little recourse without economic empowerment.

(284 posts)Given it was a Republican primary. In the runoff Cochran successfully appealed to the African-American vote in order to defeat a Tea Party challenger. Democrats voted for a Republican that better suited their needs and wants. He brings Washington DC money into the state.
I wouldn't mind seeing it happen. It would certainly be a wake up call.

Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)than to ever vote for a Republican. What sense would it make for me to vote for a party like them? They've not only been starting wars with foreign countries, but have also been opposed to expanding the right to vote and health care, have tried to wipe out the safety net and the minimum wage (which many Blacks rely on), and have been trying to do away with public sector jobs.
Furthermore, the majority of Republicans (with the exception of Jon Huntsman and a few others) don't take science seriously anymore, and they've lied that climate change doesn't exist, despite 97% of scientists confirming that it does. And with regards to Black issues, the Democratic Party hasn't been perfect either over the years. I wish that Pres. Obama, for example, would be as aggressive when it comes to shedding light on issues in the Black community as he has with the Latino and LGBT communities (though FOX News and Limbaugh would probably pounce on him even more for that). With that said, Democrats have been a thousand times better overall than the GOP since the mid 1960s, whether it's on job creation or on social issues. Frankly, the GOP didn't even deserve to have 6% of Black Americans vote for them in 2012. It should've been a big, fat goose egg.
