Stephen A Smith Says All Black People Should Vote Republican...

...in one election

http://news.yahoo.com/stephen-a-smith-black-americans-should-vote-republican-gop-election-140317220.html

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith says that if every African-American voted Republican for one election, it would send a strong message to the GOP that their vote is important.

“What I dream is that for one election, just one, every black person in America vote Republican,” Smith said Tuesday during an appearance at Vanderbilt University, according to audio published by Breitbart.com.

During the 2012 presidential election, an overwhelming 93 percent of black voters supported President Barack Obama, while just 6 percent voted for Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

“Black folks in America are telling one party, 'We don’t give a damn about you,’” Smith said. “They’re telling the other party, ‘You’ve got our vote.’ Therefore, you have labeled yourself ‘disenfranchised’ because one party knows they’ve got you under their thumb, the other party knows they’ll never get you and nobody comes to address your interest[s].”

in his condemnation of Tom over "deflategate" - and we all see that's gone absolutely nowhere. I still think it was someone on the Colts team that did the tampering, if there was any at all. He was calling for Tom's (and Bill's) immediate suspension. Screw him.

report issued citing hundreds of psi tests in all kinds of weather conditions, none of which have anything to do with the actual footballs used that day. The report will be issued on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, stating that there were no conclusive findings and thus no penalties levied. Lay odds on it! A great big nothing-burger.

ESPN - I think there were three different "bombshells" - turned out to be either wholly or materially wrong. I know there was one story that was actually removed from their website, but everyone else was still running with it because they were using "attribution" rather than their own reporting. Sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it?

Mainstreaming of the idea of state setting drastic legislation to "encourage self-deportation".

The GOP has gotten so extreme that they have become joyfully and cruelly misanthropic - even to those people they are "courting".

What he obviously doesn't understand is that the reason the very vast majority of black voters vote Democratic, is that they do understand which party is closer to having their best interests in mind.

We take the AA vote for granted. It has often caused the black community to be neglected.

After all, why spend political capital wooing those who we expect to vote overwhelmingly for us? It's sad. His comments cannot be dismissed so easily because they make us think about how we treat AAs.

something they want (money or votes). If they're sure they'll get either from you, or sure that they won't, they'll move on to a group that's on the fence and do what they can to sway them.

Organizations that always get what they want from politicians (like major corporations) play both sides of the aisle.

Money is political influence in this country. It's why blacks have so little real representation, even with a black president. That will take a long time.

You point out a serious problem. There is no easy solution.

The real problem here is that Republicans aren't even competing for their votes, so blacks are stuck voting for one party no matter what.

Given it was a Republican primary. In the runoff Cochran successfully appealed to the African-American vote in order to defeat a Tea Party challenger. Democrats voted for a Republican that better suited their needs and wants. He brings Washington DC money into the state.

I wouldn't mind seeing it happen. It would certainly be a wake up call.

than to ever vote for a Republican. What sense would it make for me to vote for a party like them? They've not only been starting wars with foreign countries, but have also been opposed to expanding the right to vote and health care, have tried to wipe out the safety net and the minimum wage (which many Blacks rely on), and have been trying to do away with public sector jobs.
Furthermore, the majority of Republicans (with the exception of Jon Huntsman and a few others) don't take science seriously anymore, and they've lied that climate change doesn't exist, despite 97% of scientists confirming that it does. And with regards to Black issues, the Democratic Party hasn't been perfect either over the years. I wish that Pres. Obama, for example, would be as aggressive when it comes to shedding light on issues in the Black community as he has with the Latino and LGBT communities (though FOX News and Limbaugh would probably pounce on him even more for that). With that said, Democrats have been a thousand times better overall than the GOP since the mid 1960s, whether it's on job creation or on social issues. Frankly, the GOP didn't even deserve to have 6% of Black Americans vote for them in 2012. It should've been a big, fat goose egg.
