Is it cool for Rachel M. to show...

George Allen saying "makaka" then describe it as an offensive racial epithet? Wouldn't just saying "he called the man an offensive racial epithet and is Senator no more" suffice? Is it cool to repeat some offensive racial epithets? Why do you suppose Rachel thinks it's OK to repeat this one?

That particular one had to be explained to most people because they'd never heard it before.

Unlike, say, "the 'n'-word", I don't think there's a way of describing that word without saying it. Can you suggest a way?

I wouldn't use the word 'cool,' but surely useful to make the point. And, as muriel v said, that particular term is/was little known.

It is a term to describe a monkey.

It BECAME offensive when it was used to describe the young Indian intern who was filming Allen on that day.

In fact, she owns a doctorate... I trust her judgement about how to present the news, and it looks like you got locked out of your own thread. Oh well.
