(21,786 posts)1) if you remove the magazine, you always cycle the action to make sure there isn't a round still in the chamber and that it's completely unloaded.
2) it's never not loaded. Don't point it at other people or yourself. Not even as a joke.

That said, I have to believe that alcohol played a huge part in this tragedy.
