This just barely happened about 2 hours ago...

...just West of Salt Lake City...

A man is dead after accidentally shooting himself in the neck, according to West Valley City police.

<snip>

...At some point he took the magazine out of the gun and pointed the gun to his own throat, not realizing there was still a bullet in the chamber."

Uneducated people, when they think they know it all and will not listen to advice, usually end up hurting others. Not so this time, eh?

Guns don't kill, it's the bullets that kill. Get a stupid person playing around with even stupider bullets, and: it happens.

...or, why are you so sure it was a Republican?

Democrats have guns too. And,... wait for it... they also drink. (I can attest to both.)

I guess your point is that Democrats are too smart to shoot themselves. I'm not so sure about that.

don't point a gun at anything you don't intend to destroy

and always treat a gun as loaded unless you have just cleared the chamber yourself

1) if you remove the magazine, you always cycle the action to make sure there isn't a round still in the chamber and that it's completely unloaded.

2) it's never not loaded. Don't point it at other people or yourself. Not even as a joke.

Everything you said. The chamber is key. That's why I'm partial to a flip up barrel.

That said, I have to believe that alcohol played a huge part in this tragedy.
