You anonymity will no longer protect you! Three stories within a month of each other outing these creeps using twitter to say the most vile, hateful things... Things they would never put their real name too, well... These truly vile human beings are beginning to have their names attached to their writing. And I think this is a lovely development!
AN SNP member who allegedly sent Scottish Conservative Party leader Ruth Davidson homophobic abuse has been suspended by the party, pending an investigation.
Marc Hughes is said to have tweeted the Tory leader using homophobic, abusive language under the username SparkyBhoyHH. The Scottish Tory leader responded: Nice. Classy. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Bet shes really proud of you....

Days after threatening to press charges against the offending parties, the actress and die-hard Wildcats fan penned an essay on Identities.Mic describing the vulgar nature of the tweets she received and the deeply personal reason they bothered her so much.
It all started when Judd tweeted her opinion that Arkansas was "playing dirty." She has since deleted the tweet and stated that she was concerned for the well-being of the Kentucky players. In the essay, Judd said her uncle expressed similar thoughts on Twitter but was spared the hateful comments she received. "Being a male sports fan is his immunity from abuse," she said.
"I must, as a woman who was once a girl, as someone who uses the Internet, as a citizen of the world, address personally, spiritually, publicly and even legally, the ripe dangers that invariably accompany being a woman and having an opinion about sports or, frankly, anything else," Judd wrote.

In a lengthy post on his blog, Schilling names the users, some of whom were ultimately fired or suspended from their respective jobs and schools -- including a part-time worker for the Yankees.
Schilling said after he sent his congratulations on Feb. 25, graphic tweets soon appeared "with the word[s] rape, bloody underwear and pretty much every other vulgar and defiling word you could likely fathom began to follow."
"Now let me emphasize again. I was a jock my whole life. I played sports my whole life. Baseball since I was 5 until I retired at 41. I know clubhouses. I lived in a dorm. I get it. Guys will be guys. Guys will say dumb crap, often. But I cant ever remember, drunk, in a clubhouse, with best friends, with anyone, ever speaking like this to someone " Schilling wrote.

So, think twice anonymous twitter users who use that anonymity to act and be the bigoted, threatening creeps you are without repercussions.... I am hoping that these stories will make it easier for persons who have been threatened and attacked to identify these creeps. You'd see an internet without misogyny/racism/homophobia etc in a nanosecond if the victims could easily identify these creeps! Why, cause they being the cowards they are hiding behind anonymity, would be fearful of losing their jobs and respect of their peers and family members if it came out what truly bigoted assholes they really are. They would stop themselves.... and that would be wonderful.... Does it stop them feeling the way they do, no.. But it would sure as hell stop all the rest of us having to deal with this bullshit on a daily/hourly basis from these creeps.

When the "free speech" defenders show up, remind them that the offenders remain free to exercise their free speech, they are just being called out for it by civilized people in all walks of life, and when those people are famous, it makes the news.
It is, in my opinion, necessary for everyone in a position to do so, call out and punish (to the limits of their power) those who's hate speech intimidate and threaten others. A good example the the University of Oklahoma president who decided he would take a stand against racist hate speech and appropriately punish the offenders.
Your last paragraph is perfect and should be repeated:
"So, think twice anonymous twitter users who use that anonymity to act and be the bigoted, threatening creeps you are without repercussions.... (36,220 posts)You are spot on!
What about others rights and free speech. The way it's set up now, the victims of the threatening violent behavior have NONE.
It's got to change. Here's to hoping it will!
If anything this ought to show everyone how this can be done protecting everyone. If someone wants to put their real names to the threats let em.. No one is stopping them!

And if/when the government tries to step in and stop it, I'll be right back to defend free speech.

This should be a requirement course in every pre-school, elementary, middle, high and college. And why are the millions of churches not having courses like this on Sunday morning?

(40,656 posts)people who do this because it might .... I don't know anymore. But they need to be publicly shamed for what they did because they are anonymous in their efforts.

(36,220 posts)Well, maybe this will scare them a little bit... Essentially, it is they who are violating the free speech of others with the use of fear and threatened violence.

(1,616 posts)fairly mild abuse compared to what is being directed at these women. For some reason some men feel sports are for men and men alone, and they totally get their panties in a bunch when they feel a woman has invaded their domain. I thought that delusional thinking faded away a long time ago, but clearly it has not faded completely.

I know for years there are other political sites out there that mock my posts and the fact that I am an overweight woman. Of course great thing about that - I can lose the weight ( so far 75 pounds ). The people who mock me will still be insensitive assholes wondering why their lives are so miserable. Maybe they should try a little less hating!

(13,058 posts)from firsthand experience what you are going through. I have been on so many diets I have lost count and I am able to lose weight when I put my mind to it. One time I lost 120 pounds. But it involves being perpetually hungry and after a while I finally just decide it's not worth it to suffer all the time just to have a weight that someone else thinks I should have. Yet I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife, who doesn't have a weight problem herself, has always been there to love and support me no matter what. What I did to deserve to have an angel like that I will never know.
