The first peregrine falcon egg of 2015 arrived Thursday in the east nest of the Woodmen of the World tower but officials aren’t sure of the mother or father.

“We noticed an egg this morning but we’re not sure who laid it,” said Barb Miller, a spokeswoman for Woodmen of the World. “We’ve seen an unbanded female around but we don’t know if she has replaced Hera, and we don’t who is the father.”

Peregrine falcon observers discovered last year that Hera’s longtime partner, Zeus, had been replaced by a bird named Mintaka in the nest on the 28th floor. It’s not clear what happened to Zeus.

The raptor programs at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission team up to help Woodmen of the World with its falcon program. Woodmen of the World began sponsoring the program in 1988 and has seen more than 60 chicks hatched since then.
