Christian End Times Family Band Gunfighting With Cops For The Lord

Aggravated Doing Unto Others

Christian End Times Family Band Gunfighting With Cops For The Lord

C'mon Get Raptured!

Several members of a Christian family band from Boise, Idaho, got into a brawl and gunfight with police in a Walmart parking lot in Cottonwood, Arizona, on Saturday night, leaving one member of the family dead and the rest in police custody. The group, which called itself “Matthew 24 Now” (GET IT???*) looked forward to the coming End Times, and apparently felt the need to hurry up the schedule a little when they attacked police and fired on them. Maybe they just loved the smell of cordite in the evening.

The nine members of the Gaver family had been living in their van in the parking lot for several days and using restrooms in the Walmart; police were called when one of the Gavers shoved a Walmart worker, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety report. When Cottonwood police arrived, the Gavers apparently thought it was time to do some apocalypsing of their very own, and attacked the cops, as reported in the Christian Post:
Upon arrival, police were reportedly attacked by members of the family and Sgt. Jeremy Daniels, 31, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The 10-year veteran officer has since been treated and is expected to make a full recovery.
. . . . .

One of the suspects, identified as Enoch Gaver, was killed after allegedly shooting at police. A second suspect was seriously wounded during the incident and one onlooker recalled the horrifying scene.
. . . .

It is not believed that any of the conventionally accepted signs of the Apocalypse were in evidence, as a third of the stars were not swept from the sky, nor did the seas boil. It would appear that the altercation is therefore without any significant theological consequences.

if they wuz black they'd all be dead by now.

But, here's my real problem:

As much as some might have fun trashing white trash fundies living in a van in a parking lot, I am somewhat dismayed, and embarrassed, that my country has people living in a parking lot, fundie or otherwise. I am also dismayed that our society, or parts of it, seems to encourage this sort of thing. God, guns, and find public toilets where you can.

The Idaho Statesman also reported that the Gaver family became homeowners in 2004 thanks to a PMI Foundation partnership with Boise's Habitat for Humanity.

http://verdenews.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=1&ArticleID=65055

Sam Walton, to his credit, established a policy where travelers could sleep in Wal-Mart parking lots for free (it's kind, and it's also generally a good business practice as well, especially when fundie wackos aren't attacking people in the restroom (maybe they thought the employee they attacked was transgender?)...and shooting cops in the parking lot.

People are generally not allowed to stay in the parking lots for more than a few days to a week, depending on the "rules" at the individual store, respectively. Some stores in California an the southwest do not permit people to stay overnight in the parking lot.

I was a migrant worker for awhile after I got out of college, and after that a low budget RV traveler, so I know a bit about the ins and outs of car camping at Wal Mart.

These unfortunate dumbass wacko fundies may have ruined it for travelers who needed a free place top stay in Cottonwood.

My alternator light came on in my car at 1 AM a few months ago, I was 80 miles from home, so I drove into a town where I knew there was a WalMart, pulled into the Walmart parking lot, and crashed in my car until daylight, when I wouldn't need lights that would drain the battery if I drove. It's a flat spot with a place to pee. I woke up at dawn, used the restroom (no fundies with guns!) got back in my car, and drove home. My local "backyard mechanic" replaced my alternator for me a few hours later.

I generally boycott WalMart, but it really is a nice thing they do by letting travelers stay in their parking lot over night.

45. The short story as I understand it
Fri Mar 27, 2015, 01:01 PM
Mar 2015

They pushed a woman who worked at Walmart as she left the building. She was related to the family.
It broke out into a massive fight between all the family memebers (hence the wounds you see in the mugshots above).
The cops arrive and the family members start shooting at the cops.
One dead and one injured according to the report.

So the conclusion I draw from this is that they are violent and too crazy to own guns. It doesn't seem as if the cops did anything but their jobs this time.

"They pushed a woman who worked at Walmart as she left the building. She was related to the family."

I asked, who is this relative, since they left their long-time home in Idaho to come to Arizona.

but I didn't see anything in the article about a relative.

I'm not trying to be difficult, just confused.

according to the story, they shoved a store employee, not a relative; and for some reason, the women went into the men's room, and the men stood guard outside. It just doesn't make sense.

when several of the Gavers, including a woman and a young girl, left their Chevrolet Suburban and went into the men’s room inside the Walmart, KPHO reported. A store employee went to the bathroom to check on the bunch, but at least one of the Gavers shoved her, police said.

I know people who aren't even religious who believe in that bullshit because it was taught to them when they were growing up. It's hard to explain apocalyptic literature to them and how you can't take it literally, but I do my best. The problem is that other denominations are not vocal enough about how it's being used. There are still many Christians who don't believe in that nonsense, but nobody talks to them, or they aren't talking loudly enough.

... just before 11 p.m., several members of the family, including a woman and young girl, apparently walked into the store and went inside the men’s restroom. Nathan Gaver told police that his mother was using the restroom inside the Walmart and that his brothers, David and Jeremiah, were guarding the restroom ...

Investigators said after a woman reported that she was assaulted by the Gaver family inside the Walmart women's bathroom, the incident escalated outside in the parking lot. The employee was going into the store bathroom when she was physically shoved out of the way by one of the suspects, according to a DPS news release. When the cops arrived, the family shot one of them in the leg.

Nathan Gaver told ... that he fought with officers to protect his sister. David Gaver, 28, was shot in the stomach during Saturday's parking lot fight with police. Enoch Gaver, 21, was shot and killed ... Nathan Gaver told police the family was forced to leave Idaho, but didn’t say why.

The family had reportedly been staying outside the Cottonwood store for several days, living in an Chevrolet Suburban SUV with Idaho plates. The Gavers had reportedly been living out of a large van with Idaho license plates in the parking lot for the past few days and entered the retail store to use the rest rooms when trouble ensued. Since the shootout between the Idaho Gaver family and Cottonwood Police Saturday night, a camping ban is being enforced at the Cottonwood Walmart on Rodeo Drive.

The Gavers' next court date is scheduled for March 31.
