living in a rural community we see hungry families every day. there is a community garden in town and donations to the food pantries... but it just doesn't seem to be enough

he could have bought far more food for the purpose than just growing it.

It's a nice goal but he could have done so much more.

One time purchase of food. The food is (we hope) consumed. People helped once.

Produce food--renewable resource year over year.

he was still player material.

He left the game, not lost it.

He still could have bought more food many times, not just once.

He could have done a lot more many times with his money from his talent.

He is doing a good thing but could have done much, much more.

You seem to be saying he should have personally funded food distribution until his skills eroded to the point he would be out of football and money.

Football is extremely debilitating to the body game over game, season over season. No one really knows when that last season, last game, last concussion is except in retrospect. He chose to leave the game with his body still intact to do something else with his life. I applaud him.

The poster I responded to seemed to be saying he should have kept playing and buying food for distribution. I applauded his going into the production side.
