to justify discrimination of women, Christian, Jews, Gays .....
I bet Tea Partiers heads will explode when they discovers that Indiana may have just unwittingly authorized "sharia law" for private business.
Women and religion are protected

(3,226 posts)What makes the "It's just like all these other laws" disingenuous is those other states had laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. Also known as a "compelling purpose" in this law.
IN has no law banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. They do have laws banning discrimination based on race or gender though.

(17,997 posts)You cannot discriminate based on a religious belief. Period. If you could, you wouldn't need the law to do it
These laws actually do nothing different in States that have not made LGBT a protected class. In states that have had issues with businesses not selling, say, a wedding cake, to a same set couple, or firing a person because they are LGBT (28 states for LGB and 34 for T) the people harmed have not been able to sue. But if it was not selling a wedding cake to a Muslim, or not serving a woman alone or not covered, they could sue.
This law just allows people the freedom to discrimination without any worry and is to usurp any possible federal protection that they think might soon happen

(3,226 posts)I am sure that there would be other "religious beliefs" which a shop owner will use to discriminate against people they find "objectionable" for reason other than religion, race or sex.

(17,997 posts)Any protected class, they are breaking the law. If you can think of an example of something that isn't protected, that isn't LGBT, then I will agree you are correct. But I don't know of anything that isn't protected that isn't LGBT.

(3,226 posts)Not covering ones head could be said to be an affront to the religion of the shop holder or allowing ones child to speak when not spoken to...
Do not get me wrong it is clear the intent of the law is to clearly discriminate against the LGBT community, I am wondering if there may also be unintended results other than the loss of business in the state.

I bet a women in a low cut shirt wearing a cross necklace wouldn't be discriminated against though because Christians are never promiscuous.
