Subaru Comes Out Against Indianas Discriminatory Religious Refusal
Moments ago, Subaru threw its weight behind the growing movement of corporations, celebrities, politicians, civil rights leaders and allies standing against Indianas recently passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
The director of corporate communications for Subaru of America, Inc., Michael McHale, issued the following statement to John Voelcker, editor of Green Car Reports:
"While we recognize that the voters in each State elect their own legislature to decide that State's laws, we at Subaru do not agree with any legislation that allows for discrimination, or any behavior or act that promotes any form of discrimination. Furthermore, we do not allow discrimination in our own operations, including our operations in the state of Indiana. We will certainly continue to take the issue of non-discrimination into consideration as part of our decision-making processes."

(10,714 posts)I'm happy to see a corporation flex a little muscle for the right reasons.
Its worth noting that many of the biggest corporations extended benefits to same-sex couples long before there was any national consensus; Busch, Best Buy, Lexmark International, Sears, Roebuck, General Electric, Eli Lilly, Staples, and United Parcel Service all added benefits in 2003-2004, when many states were passing GOP-sponsored anti-gay legislation.

(1,290 posts)If Subaru really cared about workers rights, then they'd pull out of "right to work" states and move to Union friendly states.

(1,589 posts)There are places, like new york, where we still have some clout - but basic labor laws arent strong enough to be 'union friendly' - nor the system where you can work your whole life and still be under crippling debt.

For all the Subi owners here, you can get free badges here: https://www.badgeofownership.com/
My 200k badge is sitting on my desk, waiting for warmer weather before I can add it to the others.
This car is our 5th Subaru (so far).

(32,035 posts)only 130K miles so I'm thinking about fixing it a bit and either keeping it for my daughter for college or selling it cheap to someone who could use it to get to work. I upgraded to a new car for the safety features, and the old Subaru is nearly 15, but it's such a good car that I think it could still be used.

(95,337 posts)and doesn't want to get in the middle of any boycotts. I'm sure as people are talking about boycotting Indiana products that Suburu's name came up (I had mentioned it in a thread but also commented how they have been long LGBT supporters).
I find it difficult to boycott any Indiana made products that come out this strong against the Indiana hate laws.
