Tell me what you know - I may have found a loophole/potenial shitstorm
leading to a reversal or etc.

(102,205 posts)morning after pill or physicians/health care workers who claim an individual right to refuse to treat LGBT (or others) with whom they have a "religious" based issue.
It isn't just businesses claiming the right under the "bigoted religion" flag.

(2,710 posts)These religious freedom laws are so wretched, not only because they provide cover for racism, sexism and all manner of bigotry, but also because they pretty much club individual citizens' freedoms over the head and drag them into the ideological service of their employers and corporations. What individual citizens' beliefs and values can stand in the face of the all the power and money arrayed against him on the other side? If your employer insists you are a racist or bigot when you represent them, eight hours a day, well.. I can't imagine anything closer to hell.

(1,151 posts)once they make that choice they follow the owner's policies (dress, language, schedule, etc.)
At least I'd guess that's what the argument would be.
As an employer (or manager in a large company - I've been both) I go out of my way to make sure employees don't need to do something they disagree with. While I wouldn't turn down any customer based on employee belief,
* the non-white employee wouldn't need to make the KKK cake,
* the Auburn employee wouldn't need to make the Alabama cake
* the Christian employee wouldn't have to make the LGBT cake,
* The Muslim won't have to make the bacon cake
Assuming those employees object for ANY reason - not just religious. If I don't have an employee available and I don't have time myself I'd turn down a customer. If I don't have someone who can do the work then I am too busy to accept the job - whether it's because all my employees are on other projects or I just don't have the right one available.
Businesses just work better if employees AND customers are happy. Good owners/managers know that, and will take care of it, including turning down customers (i.e. if the right employee isn't available.) It's a lot harder to get a new employee than new customer. In the case of an owner run businesses, there is no employee who is ok providing the cake so they turn down the customer.
The worst thing (to me) about this is that small business owners are getting slandered. Most I know work hard, take care of their employees, and aren't going to turn down a customer unless they really don't have time to do the job. Some things I've been reading it seems like people think all business owners are bigots who will start turning down customers or firing employees they don't approve of.
