Cotton, Bolton, Fox News, 47 Senators: Can we bomb Oman, then?

In a departure from their modus operandi, of advising our perceived enemies and stating our laws incorrectly, Tom Cotton, John Bolton, 47 Republican senators and the entire staff at Fox News have decided to address President Obama in an open letter.

Let’s Bomb Oman, or Anyone Else…We’re Open to Suggestions.

Dear Mr. Obama,

As you are well aware, we really wanted a war with Iran; but the nuclear deal you have negotiated has hampered our desires and forced us to expand our horizons. We will of course continue to sabotage this deal in any way possible until June, short of ordering the strikes against Iran ourselves – we believe strongly that you would lose respect for us, if we didn’t – but we fancy ourselves as pragmatists and have looked at a map and decided we would be almost as happy to have a war with Oman, or Turkmenistan, or even Algeria; we are not unreasonable people. To prove it, we will seriously consider a war with a country of your choosing.

The reasons for war are of course numerous, varied and vital to our national security. Instead of listing them all, we will just name the most important. Money and fun. Who doesn’t like those two things? But like Sisyphus rolling his boulder, we thought concentrating solely on Iran would be futile and we would lose sight of the larger picture. War, itself.

In case you were worried that the public may not want a war with an arbitrary enemy, we have the guarantee of one of the undersigned, Roger Ailes, that about forty percent of the country could be whipped into a war-frenzy in less than a month. With anyone, even New Zealand or Canada.

So the ball is in your court, Mr. President. Please give us a war; the clock is ticking.

Sincerely,

Tom Cotton and the Republican Senate

John Bolton

The staff at Fox News

3. I think that is what is happening in Yemen, we gave the Saudis carte blanche there

as a sop for us making up with Iran. And not a bad idea either, it may well bring down the Saudi State, such as it is.

4. We did withdraw in an atypically brisk pace last month. Opened the door, so to speak.

The Saudis and Israel were atypically quiet about that, as well.

6. I've been toying with the idea for a week or two, but it didn't hold up until now.

Just because of what you said, the lack of teeth-knashing and whatnot when it happened, when they pulled the drone guys out, it was like "Oh well, I guess we have to leave now." And now the King is stuck with his war, and now the Iran agreement comes out and there is really Jack Shit they can do about it. They are all tied down, busy, and losing credit as we speak.

And someday soon somebody will figure out that Bibi's election antics were the last straw.

15. Yes.

He's very good, when he wants to be. And subtle. There should be some interesting memoirs down the road. And I think he is better at politics than Bill, by a mile.

could have better made himself. Hence, the disasters in Libya, and even more so, in Syria and across the MENA region by expecting that the Sunni militias could be or would be somehow controlled by their Saudi/Gulf GCC sponsors. In the end, Obama shut down the US role in that operation, but not before Sec. Clinton and CIA Director Petraeus managed to set the room on fire, for which they were both fired in differing ways.

Obama's biggest fault is that he's too respectful of institutions and authority, even though he was brought into power in the hope that he could make the self-correcting actions happen even if that destroyed part of the old order. A paradox - almost pure Schumpeter: the creative destruction of Capitalism, observed during the last great crisis of the 1930s and 1940s, the FDR era. Obama hasn't managed to be the same sort of paradigm changer because previous US Presidents have so weakened the office, for good or ill.

19. Yeah, I concur, but you have to get it right the first time.

And timing matters a lot, as we just saw. So I'll give him a break for some of that. He tends to be opportunistic rather than proactive too, a minimalist, a strength and a weakness that can be, but I've seen him move when he wants to, and they all go "Huh?"

24. Yes he do

he has vision too. We'll be witness to all this these last months of his, what will be an Historical Presidency. He knows how to play the game.
Sometimes you have to give up a hand here or there to win the big pot in the end. He knows that well

I trust Obama
I do not trust the GOP, not a single one of them in fact.

28. I think we've been damn lucky he's been President, instead of anyone else who might have

conceivably been in that office the last six or seven years.

That doesn't mean Obama's perfect, or that he's been the paradigm changer we hoped for -- far from it -- just that he's a lot better at avoiding "stupid shit", as he so appropriately put it.

26. It's like this: We, the United States own lots of bombs and have this massive military and...

We need to use the bombs before they expire. And we'll the military just needs the practice. If we can't play with our armies, we are going to cry.
