"Congratulations Rahm" Thread!

http://wgntv.com/2015/04/07/wgn-projects-rahm-emanuel-re-elected-as-chicago-mayor/

I know he has haters (I am not one). His take-no-bull style can be off-putting. But it was Rahm Emanuel -not Howard Dean- who won the US House back for us in 2006 (read "The Thumpin'" by Naftali Bendavid) and he's been a damn good mayor.

So haters, stay away! This thread is for Democratic Rahm fans! Even if there's only 4 of us!

looks solid and decisive, but it's not a real runaway, not by a long shot. He's going to have to assuage the elements of the community that found Garcia appealing in his next term.

Please link to this assertion.

The only New York Times story I can find on the election results presents only exit polling data on this question, and that data clearly states that "Mr. Garcia, who immigrated from Mexico as a child, was backed by about seven in 10 Hispanic voters, as well as a majority of voters with children in the Chicago Public Schools."

So, according to your own link, Rahm did not win every ethnic category, yes?

He lost Latinos in a landslide, in fact. Chuy won every majority Latino ward, some with 75% or higher.

First of all, the SENATE gained every seat but TN that was remotely likely. No one - even the week before the election thought we would essentially get every single one of the seats we did - and as that took us to 51 - it was important.

Many things were responsible - starting with two very bad things. Katrina and the incredibly poor response by the Bush administration and the civil war in Iraq. Public opinion spun very strongly against the war -- and the shift was stunningly fast. In June 2006, only 13 Senators voted for Kerry/Feingold. By fall, top Republicans, John Warner and Chuck Hagel, returning from Iraq were suddenly not far from that position. By early 2007, more than 50 Senators voted for essentially the same amendment on which REID put his name. (Note Rahm and others who did not want Iraq raised were wrong -- it was a major issue.)

One thing where Dean should get the credit is that one aspect of the misunderstood 50 state plan was that good candidates should be sought and supported - even in places where a win is not very likely. 2006 became a wave election, but that was not obvious until fall 2006. Had there not been good candidates, with enough money to run a decent campaign - we would have lost those opportunities.

In addition to Dean, there were two other people helping people outside the likely races win - John Kerry and Wesley Clark - both especially helping vets. In Kerry's case, he provided much of teh GOTV money that Webb used in the primary. He was the stronger candidate in the general election - though he was not likely to win until Allen imploded. (Kerry also endorsed him in the primary - in spite of Webb having swiftboated him and having refused to shake his hand for 30 years out of anger because Kerry famously said Vietnam was unwinnable.) Tell me if you think Rahm, would have acted that selflessly - and given the results it meant that difference in being in the majority or minority. (Webb very very narrowly won - it is very unlikely his primary opponent would have won.)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/02/27/1367462/-Right-wing-union-buster-Bruce-Rauner-is-actively-supporting-Chicago-Mayor-Rahm-Emanuel

Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Republican Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, who wants to drive down wages and bust unions in Illinois, is actively supporting Rahm Emanuel's re-election campaign in the April 7 run-off election for Mayor of Chicago. Specifically, Rauner has made at least two phone calls to Willie Wilson, who got third place in the first round of the Chicago mayoral race and, as a result, did not make the runoff, in an attempt to convince Wilson, who supported Rauner in last year's Illinois gubernatorial election and was a member of Rauner's post-election transition team, to publicly endorse Rahm:

(Michael) Sneed hears Gov. Bruce Rauner has called former mayoral candidate Willie Wilson twice to encourage him to endorse Mayor Rahm Emanuel in April’s runoff election.
Rauner and Wilson are expected to meet Saturday. Wilson supported Rauner in his gubernatorial campaign last year, and in turn Rauner appointed him to his transition committee.

On Thursday, Wilson announced he was retracting the promise he made on the eve of Election Day that he would endorse Garcia in the event of a runoff.

K.M.A. Rahm Emanuel!
