300+ people are desperately trying to get horses, pets & valuables out of their homes.. Our fire engines have been blaring past our back street as they go to help out..
The area where this fire is , is in horse country..Most people in this area have horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, etc.
One more just screamed past at 2:25 AM..

(16,920 posts)It was about 12 or 14 years ago...I forget the name of the fire. I don't think it was a mandatory evacuation yet at that point, but her phone service was out, so they left anyway just to be sure. Very scary.

Shit - there are even brush and forest fire warnings in NYC and CT!
Earth on fire. So sad what we did to our Eden.

There was a red flag warning up for much of the area just north of Philly and into Jersey. It is that time of the year (very low humidity, higher winds due to seasonal cold air/warm air battles, and very little foliage on the trees and shrubs).
Edit to add that I was just looking at a weather forum I frequent and someone reported a huge wildfire up in the Poconos in PA (Lehigh Valley area / Carbon County) -

(8,159 posts)It was started as a prescribed burn on a red flag day ( go figure)!
Ended up burning 6500 acres but the wind was in our favor and kept it inside Custer State Park. No homes burned.

(16,920 posts)The sky is gray with smoke (Orange County). I just looked it up to find out where it was coming from then came here to see this thread. Scary! And you are right, very sad for those affected trying to save the critters.
