Heartwarming and heartbreaking...my love goes out to the Biden family and everyone at that service. Beau Biden talked the talk and walked the walk.

Thank you for your service as a military vet, a leader of people and a father to a family.

A huge loss of potential. Got something in my eyes now.

Good to have you with us. Comforting to have you with us on a day like this. I've never met ANY of the Bidens, but I'm intensely struck by the loss of Beau Biden, and I'm hurting for the whole Biden family. PARTICULARLY Joe Biden himself. He is truly a beloved figure in this country. Friendly, genuine, lovable, goofy, warm, good-hearted, totally authentic, amiable as all-get-out, just plain DEAR. He's SO human, and he's paid such heavy dues.

I'm so proud to see a President/Vice President team that's THIS strongly, securely, and sincerely connected. I can remember quite a few teams, but never teams who were also friends, who weren't just cobbled together for purely strategic political purposes. It's not just President Obama. It's his Vice President, too. I genuinely love them BOTH. Together and separately. They clearly like and respect each other. They're clearly brothers-in-arms. You can tell. No wonder, even in the face of such constant obstruction, they've still managed to get this much done. Can't help but love Joe Biden. Can't help it. Little warts and all. Those little warts are just part of what makes him lovable.

I texted a friend earlier today re: the band "not sure how much I'll get done today..." But I'm attending a very reverential wake for Beau Biden here on DU, and it is giving me great comfort. Reading through all the threads and kind of meditating on it all - it's comforting and reassuring. It's inspiring to savor the words here. DUers are tremendously insightful and eloquent!!! It's salve for the sorrowful soul. Glad you're here. I hope it's doing the same for you.

The Bidens personify family values. They have never preached about them, just live them daily. Joe is a great guy, naturally warm. My heart goes out to them. I have lived what they are now going through, and it hurts to your very core. Togeher they will find the strength to overcome this tragedy. Taken much too soon.

Sat Jun 6, 2015, 02:44 PM
Jun 2015

When relationships are built, nourished and lived across divisions of age, race and all other barriers - humanity is enriched. This was the Dream. Not just that those who were oppressed would be lifted and those who were isolated would be brought into community; but that society together would be able in unity to reach for better things, higher hopes and more powerful impact. I am personally thankful for demonstration of the rich friendship between these two men; partially because I can imagine what a rich oasis it is for Our President amidst the desert of hate and criticism he experiences and also for the picture of the balance of friendship to give and receive love not in parsed equal measure but in extravagant grace.

Glad you're here. Beautifully said. Feels like we're all kind of sitting together at a national wake. What do Jewish people call it? Sitting shiva? We do not mourn alone here, as you've probably noticed. A whole nation seems to be grieving. We sure are, in our own little "nation" online here. I'm so touched reading all the comments, all the expressions of grief - every one of them magnificent, stirring, consoling. Glad you're here. Here's to pondering it (and shouldering it) together.

My cousin knew Beau via the military--said he was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. She's so upset by his passing. I have a friend that worked for Gov. Markell and she got to know him that way and was very upset too.

He really did touch people's lives....

This was a a glimpse of two people being there for each other in a raw moment of loss, heartache and support. If that isn't what brotherhood and sisterhood are about, I don't know what is.

I've dealt with my share of personal loss, but what Joe Biden has had to endure over his lifetime no person should ever have to experience. I'm glad he has true friends who care, and are there for him.
