One of the great things about the left...

is that it has always had, and has, VERY FUNNY comedians who so effectively poke fun at the right's positions/statements/actions. Has the right ever had anyone comparable and, if so, who? If not, why not?

2. P.J. O'Rourke is about as good as it gets.

After that, probably Dennis Miller.

It is in the nature of comedy to be used as a weapon by oppressed people. Why do you think there are so many Jewish comedians? And more recently, African American ones?

4. Michael O'Donoghue had no respect for O'Rourke. Described his work as 'derivative'.

5. Conservative "humor" isn't funny

because so much humor comes from poking fun at the powerful. Since they represent the ruling class - the bigwigs, the powerful people - they won't make fun of themselves. So instead, their "humor" is more often than not at the expense of the weak and powerless; and that isn't funny - it's just mean.

...with right-wing comedians. I read that somewhere long ago, don't recall who to give the credit to, but it's always resonated with me.

“The thing about Michael that was interesting was that he taught you how to hate. He hated the horrible things in life, and the horrible people in life—he hated them so good.”

RWers ARE the horrible people in life.

7. Proper humor makes fun of people who are equals or are higher up the foodchain than yourself

Rw'ers think they are far superior to anyone else, so therefore their comedy takes shots at people they perceive to hold a lower station.

It comes across as mean and not funny.

Either that or smashing fruit with a sledgehammer just isn't as funny as it used to be.

the majority of the right wing-nut Cons are literally not intelligent enough to "get" most adult-level humor.

...but he was, of course, a very long time ago. Though he sometimes called himself a "conservative", and notoriously lost it towards the end about FDR and the New Deal, he was really *sui generis*, like all the great originals. He had more in common with Mark Twain or George Carlin, than any of them had/have with party-line ideologues of any stripe. And he was, in his prime, very, very funny...

That's he essence of great humor. Mark Twain, Will Rogers, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Bill Hicks. They all told the truth.

I just noticed something too. They're all dead.
