I'm not surprised. Bernie is the mainstream candidate.

I like Bernie. I was excited when he announced. I just don't think he'll be as effective as Hillary. I also think a lot of the ideas that make people support him, will not happen on a national level any time soon. Hillary can push the ball farther. I think Hillary has a better chance of actualizing more of her ideas.
SamKnause
(13,091 posts)Thank you for the civil conversation.
May I ask a few more questions ???
Have you done the research on both candidates ?
Do your political views align more with Hillary or Bernie ?
No great change will happen at all, if we don't start on the path to change.
I agree Hillary can push the ball farther.
I just do not like the direction Hillary pushes the ball.
Again thanks for your input.
prayin4rain
(2,065 posts)on how they would get things done and I've read several economist's analysis of each plan, I have to go on who I think will be able to bring their plans to fruition AND who will be able to thwart the Republicans' evilness most effectively.
Hillary has been fighting these people for 40 years. She will be able to hold the line and push the ball to the left. If I agree with Hillary on 85% of issues and she's able to actualize 50% of those, then I'm in a better boat than agreeing 95% but only 10% are actualized.
Hillary is a top echelon, incredibly savvy politician.
This makes Bernie more likeable, but it makes Hillary a better choice for President, at this stage, in my opinion. Republicans are down right scary, somebody incredibly strong and savvy needs to be in that position. If I start to see greater leadership skills in Bernie, I could change my mind. He's had it easy so far in his political career, so he's not had the chance to demonstrate his strength as much as Hillary.
SamKnause
(13,091 posts)thesquanderer
(11,982 posts)...has Hillary really been fighting these people for 40 years? You could also make the argument that she has helped facilitate their agenda. Sure, she has been on the right side of many issues, but she has been on the wrong side of some very important ones (IWR, Partiot Act, DOMA, NAFTA).
I'm not one of those Nader types who believes there's no difference between electing a Dem or a Repub (or, more specifically, even a moderate Dem vs a moderate Repub), if for no other reason than Supreme Court appointments. So I'd have no problem choosing HRC in the general, and I understand the importance of having someone who can win in November. But I don't see how we Dems ever get change if we don't make known what it is we really want, so I have to vote for Bernie in the primary.
And if, by some chance, he actually gets the nomination, well, I look at the proverbial clown car on the other side, and I don't see anyone there who I don't think Bernie has a realistic chance of being able to defeat. I think it is to our advantage that the Republican party is in such disarray and filled with so many loon candidates. If we are ever to have any chance of defeating a Republican with a truly progressive candidate, 2016 might be about the best opportunity you could hope for.
prayin4rain
(2,065 posts)also failed to stand up at important junctures. It's a tough decision. I'm terrified of another Republican president. Like, I literally feel actual fear over the idea. So, I may support Hillary a little more for that reason.
But, a truly progressive President, provided they could get things done, would be great for this country. Especially right now. But an ineffectual President is a huge risk with these wolves. Tough decision, for sure.

Then suddenly I get a pop-up to click on some question saying I support Bernie Sanders on some obvious issue, and asking for my email address.
That raises the question of just who set up this questionnaire, and how "objective is it?" Our ideals should stand on their own merits. I don't need some friendly version of Frank Luntz to push me in a direction I already want to go.
Like Smaug, the dragon, said in his "interview" with Colbert, "I don't like this."
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)straightforward. Maybe people whose scores show they agree with Hillary more, get pop ups too?
DFW
(54,335 posts)The second I got my score, poof, there it was.
It matters plenty. It compromises the perceived objectivity of whoever does the poll's scoring. Obviously the questions were straightforward, but just who does the scoring calculations, and how they were done, are anything but clear. I didn't program the poll, and neither did you. Somebody else did, and since I don't yet have a preference in this race, neither they, nor their poll could possibly know who I prefer.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)the popup may appear. I don't know if that is the case or not, and neither do you. I get ads on many sites I go to which are matched to words or phrases in the search. This could be the same thing. Not someone manipulating but simply the way ads are done online. Eg, if your score shows you favor Hillary, does the same thing happen?
I have seen ads on liberal blogs for far right wingers simply because their name was mentioned.
I very much doubt Sanders' campaign is behind this poll. They don't have the money to spend on something that isn't going to help their campaign very much.
DFW
(54,335 posts)i.e. find someone whose score showed they preferred Hillary, and got a popup. Since I found at least 95% of the questions to be no-brainers--maybe more, I don't remember them all--and haven't seen anyone say their score said they prefer anyone other than Sanders, that in itself is odd. You can't tell me that the only people who tried the test are Sanders supporters.
I get popups asking for contributions all the time when asked for signatures on petitions, etc. But that is rather obviously deliberate. If someone latched onto this poll and inserted the Bernie popup--well, I guess, but whoever did it didn't do Bernie any favors. I agreed with the popup, but it didn't enhance the objectivity of the poll any for me--quite the opposite. Maybe I need to hear from the first person to say the poll indicated they preferred O'Malley to take it more seriously. I haven't yet heard one person say so, for whatever that's worth, and anyone can write a poll to get desired results from a group of like-minded people.

That would be a good neutral way to not go after whatever party affiliation he has, etc. but to note that it isn't so much of a party issue, but a corruption issue of both parties, and the very function of government itself and the consolidated media space that creates the false narrative we have to endure now.
