http://www.rawstory.com/2015/07/for-the-glory-of-god-entire-staff-in-tenn-county-clerks-office-resigns-over-same-sex-marriage/snip:
The entire staff at a Tennessee county clerks office submitted their resignations this week rather than issue same-sex marriage licenses, reports WBIR.
Decatur County Clerk Gwen Pope along with employees Sharon Bell and Mickey Butler said their last day on the job will on July 14, and that they are leaving because the Supreme Courts decision to allow same-sex marriages clashes with their religious beliefs.
Speaking for the three employees whose resignations take effect July 14, Pope said they were doing it for for the glory of God, and not for the publicity.
Good riddance and don't let the secular, tax-payer paid for door hit you in the a.. on the way out.

(1,827 posts)If you promote sin as described in the Bible, God will visit retribution upon you.
That is why they resigned en masse.
You may completely disagree with their world view, but it does help to understand it.

(92,108 posts)that these self-righteous bigots pick and choose what parts of the "bible" to adhere to, and which parts not to.
They used religious arguments to justify slavery, war, women as second class citizens, etc.
Like the birth control argument, they are trying to exert THEIR beliefs on someone else. In this case they resigned, but this is the game they are playing. They are using the "freedom of religion" distortion to say their "religious rights", are being violated because the country is allowing same sex marriage. They want to argue this before the Supreme Court. Huckabee, Cruz, are pushing it. I see ads on Bloomberg where they are soliciting donations in the name of religion to push this bullshit.

(2,807 posts)Gay marriage is an easy one for them because they are bigots. Not eating shellfish is a bit more difficult I'd bet. Or stoning folks for various grievances.

(14,177 posts)They are watching their world crumble down about them and they have no idea why it's happening. Of course the reality is that the world hasn't really changed all that much. People are more tolerant I think, but people who are gay and getting married now aren't more or less gay than they were last month. It is not possible to legislate an innate orientation away. So, by that reasoning I think it's wrong to punish people and deny them rights because of an innate orientation. I have been on the wrong end of that kind of thing more than once as an androgynous person, you wouldn't think that is a big deal, but with my uber conservative mother it was.

(92,108 posts)rights are being infringed upon by the state allowing same sex marriage. I see ads on Bloomberg since this came out pushing that, and soliciting money. What they intentionally fail to recognize that the separation of church and state is fundamental

(14,177 posts)I don't really feel sorry for them. But, I see that they feel like their world is collapsing. And if they had any decency I would have real feelings of empathy for them.

(13,340 posts)the law requores reasonable religious accommodation. But reasonable accommodation does not mean an office fails to perform its basic function. This gets laughed out of court.

(26,108 posts)Or who's kin to who. It's a pretty small place. By TN law a clerk will be appointed until the next election. Whoever is appointed and/or elected hires the other 2 positions.
Good chance that whoever is appointed will go on to run for the office and win, since name recognition goes pretty far on Election day.

(58,785 posts)and they should have been forced to make this decision decades ago, but at least they didn't try to stay there and refuse to do their job. Unlike some others who are hanging around making trouble until they are gotten rid of.
