Former CIA covert operations officer Valerie Plame, who has been a vocal supporter of the Iran nuclear deal, sees some hypocrisy in the outcry against the proposition, she told HuffPost Live on Tuesday.
While President Reagan was revered for his work with the first Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which was later signed by President George W. Bush, the Obama administration's negotiations with Iran have been much more controversial, Plame pointed out.
"When President Ronald Reagan negotiated some significant arms reduction deals with the then-Soviet Union, he was considered a real hero, someone who was advocating for peace," Plame told host Alyona Minkovski. "Now when we have President Obama leading the administration push to have this deal go through Congress, he's labeled with the [Neville] Chamberlain 'giving in' label."
Plame heralded the nuclear deal as an opportunity to bring Iran back into the international community and pushed back against some of the criticism of the deal.

(489 posts)are willing to risk all life on the planet, with a global thermonuclear war, just so they can continue to oppose Obama so they can harm his legacy.
What this deal does is create a far greater chance of no war, what nixing the deal represents is a desire for war and to oppose the President.
Maybe this country was torn irreparably apart the day the black man was elected, maybe there is no way to recover from this.
The racism on the right is simply that strong.

(54,302 posts)She is very well versed in the field of nuclear proliferation--a LOT more so than the right wing armchair pundits, Fox Noise hacks, or Republican members of Congress who repeat whatever Roger Ailes tells them to.
She also happens to be a LOT smarter than just about ANY Republican member of Congress. How she ended up marrying a Republican, I'll never know, but Joe is too good a guy to have stayed a Republican for too much longer anyway.

Or that 69% of American Jews voted for twice elected President Obama in 2014, which are more Jews than voted for the President re-elected by a minority coalition in Israel in 2015.

(7,888 posts)the only deal on the table for peace. If you want grumpy, war mongers like Graham and McCain to negotiate a deal, you want to send the young members of our military to the hells of death, PTSD, brain damage and other horrible physical and mental challenges.
Of course, you would be amoung the majority of neo-con, chickenhawk Republicans. We have a choice.

(24,394 posts)is how righties are pissing their pants over a country we have not being able to prove even has a SINGLE nuclear weapon, let alone the multitude that a much larger country like the Soviet Union had (and we survived nearly 50 years with). The people I've been arguing with on Facebook keep pointing out that Iran sponsors terrorism and is somehow "irrational", which supposedly makes them supposedly worse than the Soviet Union (as for rhetoric, I suppose they forgot about Kruschev's infamous "We will bury you" comment). Nobody is arguing that Iran is perfect or that this deal solves all of our issues with them but I don't lose any sleep about Iran having a bomb so much as I do nuclear-armed North Korea and it's pretty clearly insane leadership.
