In one simple quote, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. sums up the hypocrisy in the 'pro-life' movement:

(13,186 posts)Great quote, thanks for posting.
Sister Joan nailed it without getting into capital punishment, access to health care, supporting W's warmongering and other issues. I know a lot of people who call themselves "pro life," but support capital punishment and Bush's wars and oppose any attempt by a Democrat to reform health care.
She stayed within the parameters of the unborn child's transition to life after it's born.
I liked the additional comment about not wanting their tax dollars go to feeding or educating these children. But, these same people have no problems spending trillions of dollars invading countries, killing innocent people and occupying these countries indefinitely. This accomplishes nothing except making other countries hostile toward the U.S. and making defense contractors even richer than they already are.

They...love the fetus and hate the child.

Stated even more fully, it's paternalistic, control freak government depriving women of individual choice and constitutional rights.
If it were even pro-birth, there would be movements supporting pregnant women wonderfully.

(36,827 posts)There is no moral high ground when you are promoting the idea that the government should force someone to give birth. It doesn't mater how many weeks into gestation they are. The reasons why they do not want to give birth birth do not mater. The only thing that maters is that so-called pro-lifers really want to use the power of government to force someone to do something regarding their own body against their will. There's no other way to candy coat that.

(3,384 posts)Being born is one single event. Not one person would seriously define Life as to mean the same as "Born". The phrase "to give life" is just that, a phrase, it is not a definition. "My bad", "That's cool.." are also phrases.
The biology of life was ALREADY THERE in the reproductive cells. Then by chance they happen to join and form a zygote, a new and different life-form. It is all life, was already life. Those we call "Pro-Lifers" are only Pro-Birthers unless they truly take responsibility to SUPPORT LIFE as the Sister Joan Chittister says, with education, food, housing, a living wage, some retirement... If you are for the death penalty, eat animal flesh or fish or birds that were killed for food - then you are definitely NOT "Pro-Life".

I am not a woman, btw
But I change my mind, I am PRO abortion.
I think it is a well accepted, scientifically safe and sound method of birth control in a world where population issues are very real.
There is absolutely NO reason for ANY woman to EVER feel ANY remorse and anxiety for having a safe and sound scientifically approved medical procedure.

(27,985 posts)Abortion is not a necessary evil. Abortion is a moral and positive choice that liberates women, saves lives, and protects families.

(13,218 posts)As well put as my wife who said the equivalent the first time she heard the expression pro-life. And as far as I can tell applies to all who claim to be pro-life, they don't care about the living, they just care about the birthing.

There is no such thing as a world without abortions. There are legal abortions and illegal abortions. I prefer legal abortions over illegal ones. It is truly Pro-Birth, not Pro-Life. I am all for reducing the number of abortions and unwanted pregnancies BUT this would require talking to jesus people about comprehensive sex education. *sigh*
Can't we herd these folks to a region of the country, let them secede and be done with them? Let them have their theocracy, let them edit the constitution (freedom of "the christian religion" , prayer as many times as they want in school, let them develop their own scientific method, develop their own medications, perform their own research, produce their own entertainment, develop a government with no taxes, blah blah blah. ISIS? Ha. These people, given the right economic conditions, would devolve into something very similar....I call them CHRISIS. Eh, 5-10 more years, a large segment of the God's Own Party will be deceased.
Sure is a beautiful moon tonight.
