Former Clinton aide to plead the 5th

I thought you only do that to avoid implicating yourself in illegal activity? hmmm...

Responding to additional requests regarding Clinton's private server from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley's staff, Pagliano's legal counsel also said yesterday that "he would plead the 5th to any and all questions if he were compelled to testify" before the Judiciary Committee, according to a spokesman for the senator.

edit: The aide was the IT person responsible for maintaining her personal email server

But I'm going to defend this guy. The 5th is there to defend the innocent, as well as the guilty. Any decent lawyer would tell their client to plead the 5th in a case like this.

Even if he did everything by the book, with a large enough investigation, they can find a law he broke. There are simply too many laws, and everybody likely breaks the law everyday.

Nobody really cares about this guy. If they want his testimony they will give him full immunity. Why not plead the 5th for a day and get the full immunity, even if he has nothing to hide?

I do get a bit frustrated when people assume somebody pleading the 5th is automatically guilty.

Put me in front of a cop, or congress, and I'm keeping my mouth shut, at least until I talk to a lawyer, even if I am as innocent as mother teresa. There is nothing to gain by talking.
