"Scarborough Expresses Public Gratitude for MSNBC Show Cancellations" (8/27/15)

More: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/scarborough-expresses-public-gratitude-for-msnbc-show-cancellations/

Joe Scarborough, basically the only conservative anywhere at MSNBC, let his relief for the network’s new programming changes slip on-air this morning.

Scarborough has hinted at various points in the past that he’s not too keen about the liberal direction of MSNBC’s lineup, even sparring with his colleagues occasionally, and after Joy Reid and Ronan Farrow lost their shows, Scarborough hinted at more changes.

At the time, he said, “I think that it’s very important, especially in the daytime they do hard news, they do it down the middle.”

Well, since then, The Cycle, Now with Alex Wagner, and The Ed Show have all been cancelled, and Al Sharpton‘s show is moving to Sundays.

3. When I want hard news from a cable channel....

I go to CNN & when I want politics I go to MSNBC & when I want a laugh I turn on FOX.

MSNBC is crazy to do this imho. They have their niche and they would be better served by just improving by adding more shows in the Maddow flavor.

5. This was not a smart move on their part.

Everyone knows that their audience is mostly left-leaning, so what sense did it make to get rid of those shows/move them around? I will admit one problem they have, though, is that all of the shows discuss the same things. They're all basically the same show, but with a different head each hour. If I were in charge of MSNBC, I would've kept the shows that were cancelled (and probably even replace the Prison Porn--I mean Lock Up with more hard news). As for the opinion shows, I would've had the hosts touch on a wider variety of topics instead of milking the same stories all day. That way, viewers would have even more of an incentive to keep watching.

6. I remember when Joe started at MSNBC, with a show called "MSNBC Reports" in 2003

Which was nothing but an opinion show, where Joe would do a Bill O'Reilly-style talking points memo recitation attacking anyone who dared question the build-up to invade Iraq.

Joe has been proven wrong by history (while Phil Donahue was canned), but the "lib'rul" MSNBC gives him four hours a day to have his cocktail party with fellow clueless hack Halperin, where they gush about how "honored" they are to get calls from Donald Trump.

Joe has never had high ratings, but by schmoozing with the rightwing network brass, he keeps getting shows and is given more chances to build an audience than anyone else gets.
