ACTION: Congress killing Net neutrality by budget-rider; Stop them NOW
by Brown Thrasher
I just now found out about this, so this will be short but enraging.
Big Telecom's friends in Congress have sneaked a rider into the budget bill that kills the FCC's new net-neutrality protections that we fought so hard to gain throughout 2014.
We now have hours to stop this. Public Citizen has revived its Stop The Slowdown petition, but most importantly you should call your Senators & Representatives immediately & tell them to vote down this piece of slime.

(9,688 posts)The Dems, when holding a majority, got "filibustered" at every step and even got filibustered back some steps as Dems crossed the floor to ensure that some "bipartisan" Republican friendly stuff got passed. It was so bad, and obvious, that the Dems became a laughing stock. An object of ridicule.
But the Republicans don't have this problem. The problem isn't even on the radar, it's so far out of the realm of the possible. **
The Republicans can and do get things done. Even when in a minority position, Republicans get things done with the help of "third-way" Dems. And nobody seems to mind all that much, or even notice the unbalance.
Well, scratch that last sentence. The supporters of Bernie Sanders certainly do notice, and they do mind, and they're going to do something about it. But the mobilization had better be quick because the corporate coup is happening FAST.
** eta. except for Rand Paul. It took Rand blustermucking Paul to filibuster an atrocity, and he was ALONE. Rand Paul!!!
What a disgrace!

(3,747 posts)I see nothing in that link or the links from that link that specifically identifies the rider. There is only this from Public Citizen:
...
● Roll back the Federal Communications Commissions strong Net Neutrality rules, or put
barriers in place that prevent the FCC from enforcing these protections for Internet
openness and affordability (House and Senate Financial Services).
