Chaffetz: McCarthy Should Apologize For 'Inappropriate' Benghazi Remark

Caitlin MacNeal

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, on Wednesday slammed House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for his recent comment that the investigation into Benghazi had hurt Hillary Clinton politically.

"That’s an absolute inappropriate statement. It is not how this started. We wanted to get to the truth of it," Chaffetz told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

The question is, can we do something about this now? Can we please stop this ridiculous charade? Can we stop spending taxpayer money for the goofy optics of hanging Hillary out to dry? What a cock-up.

Exactly the qualities you do not want in a House Speaker.

Compare to Tip O'Neil, or even Newt Gingrich.

McCarthy was just as ill suited as whip and majority leader, but, as the GOP promotes using the Dilbert Principle, this is not an issue for him. (at Gingrich's time, there would have been 2 or 3 people challenging him. This year, anybody even remotely qualified to be speaker is running away as fast as they can.
