Stop supporting it with your money and your butts in the seats. It's a hateful, oppressive, bigoted, mythology-pushing, anti-reason, misogynistic, homophobic, medieval, corrupt, pillaging institution, and has been for centuries. It's one of the biggest grifting organizations in history.

Let it wither and die. It deserves it.

on edit: Here is just one example of why I adamantly despise this organization:

I just don't understand why the Vatican chose to spend time with her. There are so many unsung heroes here, toiling away for the greater good and the underdogs, those who volunteer their time and energy for animals, for those without a voice... then there's Kim Davis. Demanding $80K per year of taxpayers' money for a job she refuses to perform. Her position doesn't even make sense, and she has no leg to stand on, since the gay marriage license she refuses to issue is just a legal document. Not a religious one.

Why her? Am I naive to think it could be as simplistic as big-money Conservatives and their donations to the church could orchestrate this as part of their pandering to their nutbag base?

Carlo Vigano. The Pope isn't in full control of his itinerary and he had dozens of private meetings organized by church leaders.

There are a lot of establishment Catholics that would like to see this Pope gone or discredited. And a lot of big money conservatives too. By all the anti-Catholic vitriol the meeting is driving on this forum and elsewhere on the net, I'd say it's working. I'm sure there's also a ton of Catholics saying oh no! He let me down! If he's liberal on so many things why would he meet with Kim Davis, The Leper! She's so unworthy!

We don't really know what happened at the little meet in greet, aside from her lying lawyer, and you know what, who cares. It's not really about the Davis, the Pope, or the Church. The GOP strategy has long been about driving wedges between different groups. The Pope was too popular with the lefties and getting them fired up, they didn't want their precious Catholic conservative voters to "see the socialist light" and they certainly couldn't let him leave the country on an upnote of addressing climate change, inequality, immigration. They needed a diversion. Totally worked!

record between Francis and the US anti gay right wing. Only chumps bought into the bogus edited quotes and obvious public relations ploys.

He only gave the opening address. Linked below. He talks a little about male/female marriages (this is the theme of the meeting after all) but redirects to talking about his issues of poverty and ecology.

Sorry I don't see a Francis anti gay right wing conspiracy. I'm sure there's still plenty of lingering righties in from the old regime around.

I don't expect him to support gay rights. I don't expect him to affirm gay marriage.

But if Pope Francis wants to promote civil disobedience, then he should advise Kim Davis to quit her job. Encouraging her to break her oath of office and impose her religion on the general public is despicable. That's exactly what he did just by meeting with her, irregardless of what he actually said during that meeting.
