Vatican fires gay priest on eve of synod (STILL waiting for all the pedophile priests to be fired)

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican on Saturday fired a monsignor who came out as gay on the eve of a big meeting of the world's bishops to discuss church outreach to gays, divorcees and more traditional Catholic families.

The Vatican took action after Krzysztof Charamsa, a mid-level official in its doctrine office, came out in newspaper interviews in Italy and Poland saying he was happy and proud to be a gay priest, and that he was in love with a man whom he identified as his boyfriend.

"The decision to make such a pointed statement on the eve of the opening of the synod appears very serious and irresponsible, since it aims to subject the synod assembly to undue media pressure," the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said in a statement.

As a result, Charamsa could no longer work at the Vatican or its pontifical universities, he said. Despite his dismissal, Charamsa remains a priest, although Lombardi hinted that his superiors could take further action.

2. No one, and no institution, can play both sides of the fence on the LGBT issue.

But, as to this particular instance, would this have been different if a priest, who is supposed to be celibate, had announced, at an important time, he had a girlfriend?

Really, the vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience, all of which turn on celibacy, are untenable. Admit it and move on.

5. Correct. The Priesthood is supposed to be celibate. A Priest in love with a woman would be

in the same situation. Many straight Priests have resigned for this reason, though this Priest hasn't left the Priesthood.

Many Catholic priests are gay.

3. Who am I to judge?

Remember when people thought he meant he did not judge gay people? They were chumps who did not listen, look nor care to find out.

4. This is about celibacy, not orientation.

If a Priest announced he was involved in a relationship with a woman he would also be asked to resign.

And many straight Priests have.

According to Andrew Greeley's surveys, a large fraction of Priests are gay. But as long as they're celibate, the Church has no issue with their orientation.
