General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat is currently the most organized "anti-NRA" organization out there?
And how can I send then my money? Who does Bloomberg bankroll to fight the NRA? Brady campaign?
I am so sick of those as @$$holes bullying around the rest of the country while children and college students are terrified to go to school, and idiot presidential candidates pass off mass murders as "stuff happens".
I never understood how it is that the NRA became the most effective and intimidating lobbying organization in America, but which ever organization that is in the best position to fight them, I am ready to give my full support and money to, and plead for them to get out there more to fight back.

(12,194 posts)An old grandfather told his grandson: My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, and resentment. The other is good. It is joy, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and bravery.
The boy thought about it, and asked, Grandfather, which wolf wins?
The old man quietly replied, The one you feed.
Careful not to feed the nra.

(1,259 posts)I will be happy to feed the wolf that mercilessly chews up the NRA wolf to pieces and then happily defecates it's NRA feces in Donald Trumps infinity pool!

(12,194 posts)The best way to defeat the nra is to not feed them.
Attacking guns only makes them stronger.

(12,194 posts)What has attacking gun ownership done to the nra over the last 30 years, and what has it done for gun sales over the same time?
Be honest.

(1,259 posts)And twisted organization that feds off of mass murders.
I am all for responsible and reasonable gun ownership, but not for enabling psychopaths to possess weapons of mass murder.

(12,194 posts)Define 'responsible and reasonable', and 'weapons of mass murder'.
Its unclear what you mean by those terms.

(1,259 posts)Here is a suggestion, watch Commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger from the 1980's, and whatever you see Arnold Schwarzenegger using to kill one of the bad guys, consider that to be an unreasonable weapon to have lying on the coffee table while your children are playing in the living room on a nice Sunday afternoon. And then watch Beverly Hills Cop 1 with Eddie Murphy, and whatever weapon you see him use to comedic ally arrest the bad guys, consider that a slightly safer weapon to keep stored in your home. Hope that helps!

(12,194 posts)From memory (its been years since I saw that movie) I seem to recall him using automatic weapons and a rocket launcher in that movie.
So you object to automatic weapons and rocket launchers?
Beverly hills cop 1?
Um...handgun?
Handguns are ok?

Those things don't change simply because you don't like them.

(4,462 posts)and certainly not really grassroots or in the same organizational league of the NRA.
Your best bet is probably Bloomberg's current preference, Moms Demand Action (MDA).

There's also the Brady Campaign. They're older and more established, but have had there share of controversies, and hardly have a record of success over the last couple of decades.

(22,000 posts)Is that there are quite a few campaigns out there and none of them are particularly effective. I'm not saying that they don't do go work for the cause, but there just hasn't been the massive push to get a single united group working toward gun control.

(16,038 posts)That is the limitation on government imposed by the 2nd amendment and all of the associated case law.
This issue of public safety will not be gained upon by spending time and money battling over an amendment which will not happen in any of our lifetimes without A Lot of state work...A Lot...each piece of state work is key and commitment to enabling states to do things like private background checks at the federal level is essential...but alas, all we will hear is we must do the impossible...that which cannot and will not happen...that is what we must argue about.. futility it is....

(3,811 posts)of many people. Maybe you've noticed all of the "Guns and Ammo" and "Duck Hunters" magazines at the local bookstore but never really paid attention to them. The NRA is a heavy sponsor of most of them and is directly behind some of them. The NRA infiltrates scores of different institutions and organizations, from law enforcement, to quasi-civic education groups, to hunting and hunter education groups, to the Elks Clubs and the like. Walk into any break room or the construction trailer at manufacturing plants and construction sites and you're likely to find NRA sponsored magazines and literature lying on the tables. And of course, their direct lobbying and "outreach" to politicians is very well known.
It's astonishing really.
