We had some family over to enjoy smoked brisket Saturday afternoon. My aunt, who is in her early 60's, and very non-political was there. For some reason she has the uncanny ability to pick winners in presidential elections.
She voted for Carter, Reagan twice, Bush, Clinton twice, Bush twice, and Obama twice. We know she is genuine since she tells us who she is voting for before the election. Understand, she would rather discuss her garden than politics, so I doubt her choices are due to any sort of deep analysis or studying the issues.
So after a few beers and well into the brisket, the conversation turned to the election. My family is very politically diverse ranging from Tea Party to Bernie so the discussion between the ten adults at the table was lively, except for my aunt who had not joined in.
Finally the question was asked "who are you voting for Jill?" Quietly she said "Ben Carson"
We were all a bit shocked since no one else thought he had a chance, so the follow up question was inevitable. Why?
"Because he is the only one who seems genuine, honest, and does not sound like a politician or a bafoon when he talks" With that the discussion began and my aunt went back to her brisket and coleslaw.
So what do you think? Is she representative of the general public?
And of course, the family took note of Aunt Jill's choice and waiting to see if her lucky streak lasts.
Kilgore.

(20,886 posts)If she thinks Carson isn't a buffoon. He's just quieter than the rest of the buffoons.

(23,156 posts)He really is a buffoon, although he's so very soft-spoken, unlike Donald Trump, he comes across somewhat better. That is if you don't pay any attention to the content of what he says.
