Rain is needed over time to end a drought. Also, too much at once just produces floods and run-off. tblue37 Oct 2015 #2

All the old ones are either lost or dry-rotted by now. Good luck on getting plenty more rain. We have too much in North Alabama right now.

What you need is steady, recurring, moderate rains over time, so it can sink deep instead of running off.

Well played, sir. A moderate response.

And that rain did sound nice this early morning. Everything feels fresh out there now.

I was awakened at 1:00 AM with the rain, and had to run out to my car in my jammies to close windows. But this morning, it's bright and shiny, not a cloud in the sky.

California needs rain in moderate doses. A bunch at once and you'll be in mudslide season.

I surveyed the soil this morning and had a whopping 3/4" penetration in loose soil; I suspect it will evaporate by sunset.

The light little sprinkling I got yesterday left some dents in the dust, with nothing in the forecast for another 10 days at least.

Our situation isn't quite as serious as CA's...yet. We have stressed forests, bare mountains with no snowpack, and our own fire-ridden areas, though. In a typical el-nino year, we'll get more rain, less snow (not good; we need the snowpack,) and less precipitation overall as some storms skip us to head down to you.

I hope CA will get some water this winter. After 35 years living in so cal, though, I'm pretty familiar with the fire/mudslide cycle. It looks like So Cal will be getting more rain today. I don't know where you're at on that map, though.

You know the other day I posted it was raining, well that rain lasted less than a half hour. I remember weeks of rain that seemed to never stop! Maybe that will happen in November, December or January, but it didn't happen like that last year. We keep asking, where is the Rain.. cause we haven't seen much of it. I miss the Thunderstorms...I wish we would have them again!

The wind blew a leaf down here this afternoon.

Can't figure out why the hurricane warnings are so late........
