The line looked almost endless. Hundreds of local UAW members met Sunday at United Township High School to get their hands on a copy of the new contract with Deere and Company.

The new six year agreement included a letter from UAW directors Norwood Jewell and Ron McInroy in which they describe this contract to be "a contract that will protect jobs, health care, and economic certainty for our active and retired members."

The 17 page document is filled with details on pay and benefits, but a few details stand out.

Number one, no plants will close according to the agreement. One employee says that gives him and his family a sense of security.

There is also an emphasis on health care. Officials urge that no matter what's going on with the economy, employees health benefits will be protected even if the employee retires or is laid off.

Employees are also promised increased paid time off, pension improvements, and 89 paid holidays throughout the six years.

And since the contract passed, senior employees, including many of those currently laid off, will now get a $3,500 bonus.
