As Fort Worth columnist Bud Kennedy has pointed out, the funds "funneled" to Planned Parenthood via United Way were sent at the behest of donors who have the right to choose where they want their money to go. In other words, people chose to have their money go to Planned Parenthood. Now, Fort Worth Republican and elected official Ron Wright wants to shut down United Way. All because it (like Planned Parenthood) believes in giving its donors the right to choose.

And this, in a nutshell, is why the Right Wing hates Planned Parenthood. The organization gives poor and working class women the right to choose whether they will conceive when they have sex. It gives them the right to choose whether they will die of breast cancer. It gives them the right to choose whether they will die of heart disease.
Republicans do not want poor and working class women to have any choices at all. They want women to continue to perform their role as underpaid overworked laborers, in order to keep wages low for all and corporate profits high. They do this by saddling young women with children they can not afford to raise, by saddling middle aged women with medical debt, by consigning elderly women to the junk pile once their working days are over ("Social Security is Welfare" .
I am not suggesting that all your money go via United Way to Planned Parenthood. Continue to give directly to PP. But, consider making at least a small donation to United Way with the stipulation that the money will go to Planned Parenthood. That will teach the Right Wing to try to take away our right to choose.
