No-one can skewer the high and mighty of all stripes like he can. Rapier-like wit mixed with disarming humility and genuine humanity. There will NEVER be another Jon.
Don't know if this was posted back in August or not, but here it is just in case:
JON STEWART HAS LEFT THE BUILDING:

(3,595 posts)With Stewart, there would be a link to a segment almost every week. I have seen only one link from the new guy.
I don't watch the show. Who amongst DU'rs, watches it and has an opinion of the replacement?

True, haven't seen any clips here on DU, either. I hope Noah gets into his stride, but he'll never have the intimate connection with US politics that Stewart did.

(11,804 posts)His big problem is that Noah is not Stewart. But the first few years, neither was Stewart - so either he's a sacraficial lamb to get us over missing Stewart or he'll grow into the role.
He did do a very funny take down of Ben Carson's attitudes on Gun Control.

(15,445 posts)Thank the cosmos for YouTube! As an expatriot, I have to resort to YouTube for most US TV clips, as I suspect you must, too.

(54,358 posts)The German media, as you might imagine, is full of refugee news and commentary, and little else these days. Although German TV does a spin of the Daily Show (Die Heute Show), it is 3rd rate compared to Jon Stewart because they just don't have anyone of his caliber. For that matter, who does?

(15,445 posts)selfishly wish he was still in the "news" anchor chair, showing the crazies up for the clowns they are.

(9,463 posts)...that he has some very big shoes to fill. However, I am still not sure what to think about bringing in someone who doesn't, as you said above, have the intimate knowledge of American politics and culture that Jon had.
We just need to give Noah time. But, personally, I will still not miss the show.

(15,445 posts)It's just that he grew up in a totally different and alien political culture.
The gut-level instincts and unspoken understandings that come from being born and bred in a time and place cannot be "taught" or "assimilated".
Even John Oliver, as brilliant as he is, couldn't do exactly what Jon did.
