As a teen I watched Chris Rock brilliantly address Americas gun problem during his Bigger and Blacker stand up. We dont need gun control, Rock pleaded to a packed house, We need bullet controlif bullets were $5000, people would think before they shot some one! You gotta really piss someone off for them to dump $50,000 worth of bullets in to you! And just like the crowd, my brother, some friends and I erupted in laughter.
Rock was definitely on point, $5000 bullets would be great but Id take it a step furtherI believe that being shot should be requirement for gun ownership in America. Its very simple. You need to have gun, like taking selfies with pistols, cant live with out it? Then take a bullet and you will be granted the right to purchase the firearm of your choice.
If we could successfully implement this rule, I guarantee the mass shootings will stop. Watching cable news now in days makes me physically ill. Week in and week out we are forced to learn about another coward, who cant stand to deal with the same rejection that most of us face so they strap themselves with guns and then cock and spray at innocent people. Heartbroken survivors and family member images go viral, as our elected officials remain clueless.
The Democrats faced off for the first time this week. Clinton lead with a stat that was just as staggering as it was sad, 90 people a day die due to gun violence! followed by the rhetoric that has been tossed around for yearsmore rigorous gun laws coupled with a stricter screening process and plans that are never clear or properly fleshed out. She and Bernie traded blows on whos tougher but stillno solutions on aggressively addressing this matter.

(43,161 posts)On the other hand, we keep on getting "bikes are more dangerous than guns" and "swimming pools are more dangerous than guns" and "cars are more dangerous than guns" thrown at us from the gun enthusiast crowd without a single drip of irony.

(10,164 posts)Personally, I don't take those shit-tier analogies very seriously, either. I realize there are people offering them up in all seriousness...but horrible arguments abound on both sides of this issue.

(2,367 posts)knock off the cars, swimming pools, etc are more dangerous than guns nonsense. I can choose to swim or drive a car (or not). I ccan't choose to not be shot, but not owning a gun reduces my chances.

(18,318 posts)And immediate and effective pushback. That should be obvious.
Perhaps the best way to end bikes & pools arguments is to try another approach, Carcetti. No one gets a free pass from criticism just because they make a pro-gun control argument.
Question: Do you think gun-ownership should be based on the experience of being shot?

(43,161 posts)Here's the problem with the gun lobby and their backers such as yourself. They'll take the most unrealistic concept, like this one which was clearly made tongue and cheek, and run with it as if it were real.
But I honestly think many of you guys really think guns can be equally compared to swimming pools and cars and bikes without a single bit of irony or sarcasm. Hell, I've heard it right here on the DU of all places.

(18,318 posts)The OP appeared in the Open gun group, then in Gunz Discussion, and reflects the same kind of approach as "penis talk." Gun controllers take great pleasure in this kind of thing, as did the Saloon writer; after all, what would culture war prohibitionism be without the "sweetest of moral pleasures (Huxley)?" So, no backing out now by calling it an 'unrealistic concept' (a strangely de-natured description).
You should take a look at the leading causes of accidental deaths for children under 15 yoa. Gunz is wa-a-a-a-ay down the list.
Backers of the mysterious and majestic cackling hen 'gun lobby?' Reminds me of the "are you now, have you ever been" question posed by another controller in Gunz or Gunz Discussion. Why he refuses to talk to me, now! The closest backing of any gun lobby is an ongoing membership in Ducks Unlimited (the other DU), and the Nat'l Wildlife Fed.
Just what IS the 'gun lobby," now or ever been?

(43,161 posts)Clearly shooting after shooting (most notably Sandy Hook) did nothing to convince the gun enthusiast crowd and the gun lobby (and yes, you very well know who the gun lobby is, even if you aren't a card carrying member of such organizations) to support even the most mild and seemingly common sense gun control measures (think Manchin Toomey), the question naturally is: what would convince them?
And thus, the Salon piece posited--tongue firmly in cheek, but apparently you don't seem capable of realizing that--maybe the only way to convince such persons is if they got shot themselves. Clearly it's an absurd proposition meant to bring home a much more sobering point. I'm sorry you missed it.
You talk about accidental causes of death of children under the age of 15 as if you think that somehow excuses the ludicrous urge to compare guns--something primarily designed as a weapon--to swimming pools, cars and bikes.
Gotcha.
