The Spring Valley Arrest Video Isnt Disturbing: Heres Why
by DAVID FRENCH October 27, 2015 8:05 PM
Ive known multiple public-school teachers who were grateful for police assistance after spending years getting punched, kicked, bitten, and otherwise physically abused by their students. I distinctly remember seeing my own teachers tossed around like rag dolls by angry students during raging hallway brawls. At some schools, even small children will attack and harm their teachers.

(I have worked in the Public & Private School System for 25 years
- I have NEVER seen the necessity for anything close to what happened here, mho, kp)

(7,572 posts)I am one of those teachers you talk about...I do not condone what this officer did......but unless the whiners have never been in a classroom with smart-ass, foul-mouthed, extremely disrespectful bad mannered obnoxious kids....they have nothing to whine about....many top-notch teachers have left the profession because they prefer not to work in a insane asylum....

(77,047 posts)I don't give a crap about what a "smart ass" the student is. HE BROKE HER F**ING BONES.

(10,164 posts)That doesn't invalidate chillfactor's point: teachers are assaulted on a regular basis in classrooms these days. Teachers are leaving the profession because they are so vulnerable to violence by students.

(3,457 posts)I think a far more serious cause of teacher resignation is the general lack of respect shown by voters and politicians who demean and attack them constantly.

(10,164 posts)Student violence is less common and more concentrated. The factors you mention are more-or-less universal.

(41,692 posts)I love how some preface their remarks with "I do not condone what this officer did"---and then blast the students.
You call people who object to this "whiners"?

(21,734 posts)I taught for 20 plus years and I did have to have a student removed from the classroom only one time. It was done correctly by our security guard who basically talked the student down until he left under his own accord.
It can become frustrating for teachers and I recall telling one kid,"they don't pay me enough to put up with your crap". I actually think I got the message across in that case.
The point being, it can be very difficult and frustrating. Tempers can flare, but there are alternative ways of dealing with these things and the incident in SC is an example of what NOT to do. It's not a fucking bar and he's not a bouncer. It's not really a federal emergency.

(65,616 posts)NOT that the student was punching, kicking or bitting anyone...she was sitting there on her phone. The RW troll story is meant to cause FEAR and ANGER among the millions of braindead that get turned on by racist signals.
SHE DID NONE OF THOSE THINGS, but truth and accuracy mean NOTHING to RWing assholes.
