Did they call her a thug while they were justifying the cop?

(64,931 posts)One important comment is why are there cops in the school at all?
Another question is why are there not nonviolent means used to diffuse the situation. Aren't the cops trained to use nonviolence in a school setting?

(41,692 posts)That's the crazy thing about all this. The girl was not violent. She just didn't want to get up. Did she disrupt the class...yeah--no doubt...but shit like that happens.
You get a counselor in there to talk with the girl and eventually she would chill and move out of the classroom. That's how you do it...but nope---they got a bodybuilder to slam her to the ground and drag her out.

Glad he was fired but fired wasn't enough for that piece of shit.

(26,355 posts)He needs to be criminally charged, punished, ideally with some long hard time in PMITA prison, and then blacklisted from ever working in law enforcement ever again.

(15,882 posts)Want to think about the future if they let this stand, with 2/3 of the problem still there?
Every student at that school is in danger. If another gets hurt the lawsuit might, and should, bankrupt the municipality . The resulting charges, for which there will then be a pattern as well as evidence, might put several people both in and out of the school in prison. Might even get some kids removed from their parents for letting this go on.
This isn't over.
Oh yeah - two kids facing charges. Even if dropped, they are now in the system and will come up every time a search is made, and may well be stopped again just because of this.
And if unarmed, more likely to be shot than white folk for the same behaviors. Be careful out there.

(2,146 posts)she in no way justified this beat down. All the cop had to do was pick her and the desk up as one, and walk out of the room.

(38,419 posts)Hell, there was a cop there, the principal, and the teacher. Eventually she would have gotten up, or empty the class, like others have said..and waited.

(35,300 posts)Primarily they asked what else had happened off video, what should be done with kids who disrupt classes.
The rest is spin, poor memories, or poor reading.
The same thing happened in other situations. "The jury may find otherwise" or "wait for all the facts" was taken as supporting something or other and lead to a lot of acrimony by the "you're either with us or against us" crowd who can't see anything in between "you agree with us or you're hateful and vindictive and should be given your pizza, frozen."

(9,350 posts)Maybe no one at DU sided with him, but there were people on the internet who supported the police officer. There were people who said the girl got what she deserved. Others complained that if the police officer had not done what he did the girl would have been running the school/class. There was also a good deal of she should have complied with the officer and teacher's request.

And my favorite: great job by the resource officer
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141243490#post214
Yahoo! commentators, of course, overwhelmingly think the resource officer did a great job. "A few years ago this would have been normal". I can't imagine where this guy lived that this was "normal"**.
I grew up on a family farm in the ultra-conservative, freaking bible belt as the son of an ex-Marine. Had a cop done something like that to my sister, or probably even one of us sons, my dad would have looked up that cop afterward and turned him into a bloody mess.
And the entire community would have applauded him for it.
That isn't really all that speculative as it actually happened to a violent cop when I was growing up. Twice. Both times happened in the middle of small towns ... and nobody saw a damned thing.
**Of course, I was also in an almost all White county. If we assume the Yahoo! was talking about it being normal treatment of Black kids in certain regions, then their comment rings all too sadly true.
Talk about spin and poor reading.

(9,350 posts)The fact that he got fired will not sway his supporters. His supporters will say he was just a victim of the PC liberal weak culture where the good guys are punished for doing the right thing.
