Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday delivered a key endorsement to Congress's sweeping two-year budget deal, even though it includes major boosts in defense spending without tax increases that he has long criticized.
This is not the budget I would have written, Sanders wrote in a statement Wednesday. But I will support it because its much better than across-the-board budget cuts, increased premiums for Medicare, cuts to Social Security and the constant threat we wont pay our bills.
It had been unclear whether the Democratic presidential candidate, who is running on a populist message, would support the deal that has also been embraced by most Republicans.
His statement makes clear that he does not plan to oppose the deal to boost his campaign, unlike GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who was quick to condemn the deal.

Now just a few days ago the "anti" Obama gang was complaining about all the "cuts in SS and Medicare" that president Obama was giving away to republicans in this bill. Now Bernie says they aren't in there. Could the "anti" Obama gang have been wrong on all their hair on fire accusations, again?
Of course I will be waiting to hear their apologies which I am sure they will be issuing any time now!

(11,495 posts)I did find the thread and kicked up to the top so they could all "remember" what they said and of course issue those heart felt apologies.

(25,699 posts)So let me see if I've got this figured out. The bill DOESN'T cut social security if we're talking about Obama being for it, but DOES cut social security if we're talking about Sanders supporting it?
It's like some sort of optical illusion where if you look at it from one angle it's an elephant, but if you look at it from the other angle it's a houseplant?
Here is a thread with all the "hair on fire" posters making the claims, so if they are right, Bernie is voting to throw medicare and SS under the bus, since they claim that's what Obama is doing, and Bernie said he would vote for the bill. Of course he said it did not cut SS or medicare. So who is right?

(42,278 posts)This is the umpteenth time they have been wrong about President Obama. The response is usually " well he wanted to cut SS and Medicare."

(13,390 posts)was whether they believed he would have vetoed a single-payer bill. Crickets, of course.
In this case if a bill to expand either or both miraculously hit his desk, I think he would sign it in a heartbeat. Sometimes the only option is the best bad budget bill.

(11,495 posts)I would think that at least on of them might step up and do the right thing. Of course they may be to busy bashing over on the primary board.

(904 posts)Or that Bernie (like Obama ) is a POS used car salesman for supporting this deal.
I'll wait.....

(11,495 posts)There is a group here who have been "anti" Obama from pretty much day one. They are the same group that now is "anti" Hillary, and the same group that wanted to '"purge" the party of anyone that didn't agree with them. Heck they even started their own group here on DU.
Sadly now they "claim" to be supporters of Bernie, but I have a hard time believing that they "really" support him instead of simply wanting to use Bernie to divide the board even more with their bashing of Hillary.

(904 posts)Obama= Third Way sell out for agreeing to this deal.
Clinton= Third Way sell out in general.
Sanders agreeing to this deal= silence.
Well at least now I know the "rules of the game" so to speak.
