We'll have too wait and see.
I predict at least 6 games.

(23,156 posts)would be they'd then win the Series at home, which would be totally amazing. Kaufman stadium wouldn't empty until dawn.
My son was at the game tonight, had a fabulous time.

(23,156 posts)wouldn't they?
I can't begin to speak to the spirit in NYC, but I do know that more than 78% of TVs in the Kansas City area were tuned in to the game, compared to just over a quarter of the ones in NYC. Says a lot about city team spirit, doesn't it?
Anyway, snark aside, my son was at tonight's game, and we were texting during it. I'd asked him to call me, but he said there was no point as I would not have been able to hear him.
Oh, and I was living in DC when the Mets won the Series in 1969, and I could swear we heard the cheers from NYC down in DC!

(36,437 posts)I predict Royals in 5. You've seen the last of your team this year, but for the parade.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)mainly because I really don't know very much about the game of baseball. Or any sports. I'm a casual fan at best, and right now I'm mainly experiencing the Royals vicariously, through friends and relatives in KC.
I'm not entirely sure why you say "You've seen the last of your team this year, but for the parade," since I'll see them in at least the next two games. Maybe more.
There is a sweetness to the Kansas City affection for the Royals right now.
My son texted me yesterday that when he was waiting in the gate area in Phoenix (where he changed planes from Portland) that he could see at least five or six people with Royals gear, and one with Mets gear. He himself was not wearing any Royals anything, so there were probably more fans for each team than was obvious.
Last year he likewise flew from Portland to Kansas City for the Series, and when he boarded the connecting flight, an announcement was made that there were two San Francisco fans in first class. There was good-natured joshing, genuinely good natured. And as I mentioned before, more than three fourths of KC TVs were tuned in to the game, compared to just over 25 percent of those in NYC. I think that says a lot about fan support, even though it has zero bearing on the abilities of the teams.

(36,437 posts)I meant at home games, of course.
I don't know why you insist on insulting Mets fans as part of this discussion, but I'll leave you to that.

(23,156 posts)Although I live in NM, and don't even own a TV and so it's impossible to actually watch a game (no live streaming if you don't have Xfinity or Dish or something else) unless I invite myself to a friend's house or go to a bar.
I am not insulting Mets fans at all. I just pointed out how the entire Kansas City Metro area is behind the Royals compared to only a fraction of people in NYC. Heck, even a friend back in Kansas who has been a die-hard Yankees fan all her life and who said she didn't give a rip about the Series if they weren't going to be in it, is posting deliriously happy stuff about the Royals on her FB page.

(36,437 posts)Mets are deep underdogs, as the first two games have demonstrated.
Royals in 5 is my prediction.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)For some reason (*cough*gothamcentricity*cough*), the Mets have been favored by the oddsmakers for both games.
I think the teams are pretty evenly matched, but the big difference is that the Royals went to Game 7 of the World Series last year. You can see it in their team demeanor: They never say die, they never think a game is over. The Wild Card game last year against Oakland, they were six outs away from defeat. The tallied three in the eighth and one more in the ninth to overcome a four-run deficit, and won it in extra innings.
This year, the Royals were again six outs from elimination in Houston. The Astros had been nursing a slim 3-2 lead when they got back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh. Minute Maid Park was rocking as Houston took a 6-2 lead into the eighth. n the top of the eighth, the Royals just kept stringing together hits, and by the end of the inning, they had a 7-6 lead en route to a 9-6 shocker. Houston didn't stand a chance in Game 5.
Kansas City had a good series against Toronto, but even in the Blue Jays' laugher in Game 3, Toronto watched a comfortable 11-4 lead diminish to 11-8 late. The Royals turned in a workmanlike four games to two series victory.
So far in the World Series, the Royals have come back from 3-1 and 4-3 deficits, overcoming the last Mets lead on a bottom of the ninth homer against the ace reliever. They just don't panic, and they don't give away at-bats. Everyone who comes to the plate seems to have an idea of what he wants to do, a pitch he wants to hit. When the inning is going well, every hitter seems dialed in, and it doesn't seem to matter what the other team does to adjust.
We'll see how the Royals do in New York, but the Mets are in a must-win situation in Game 3. The last time Kansas City came into New York with a 2-0 series lead, they swept the Yankees with a 4-2 victory powered by George Brett's three-run dinger to the upper deck.

(36,437 posts)The Royals led the AL all year. Were it not for an incredible NL Central showing, theyb were far and away the best team in baseball all year. They are in the World Series for the second straight year. The Mets, even during the their run, were considered a mediocre team that just happened to be located in the worst division in baseball.
Any book that favored the Mets was ridiculous, as I expect you'd agree.

(23,156 posts)the way Fox broadcasts, I can't watch the games live. Alas, poor me, sniff, sniff.
Anyway, last year I tuned into one of the local KC TV stations just as one of the home games was ending. I honestly don't recall which one, although I think it was one they lost. Forty-five minutes after the game ended the stadium was still filled with happy, exuberant fans.
The spirit of the people in Kansas City is amazing to behold. I lived there from 1990-2008, and all of those years the Royals were something of a joke. Yeah, there was a certain amount of home town support, but mostly a lot of resignation at how not very good they were. Then last year they exploded, and I heard lots of stories from friends and relatives there about how genuinely nice the players were, which is always great to hear. This year's team from what I can tell is much the same.
Of course, no team EVER "deserves" to win a World Series just because it's been thirty years or because the players are nice. But the first two games certainly make me think the Royals will win the crown, as they are all saying there. Heck, I should consider driving there just to be in town if that happens.
My son was at tonight's game, and I had a great time texting him throughout.
