Kerry and Obama who were running general election campaigns instead of comparing the vote percentage to the same point of the primary race.
And everyone sits around these discussion tables and they nod their heads like blithering idiots praising Rubio for his answer.
His answer was UTTER HORSESH!T crafted to manipulate the media and the voters who ate it with a large spoon.

(65,616 posts)The M$M is a fucking joke the world over. The ONLY reason they can sit there and pretend to be serious, is because someone is paying them millions to do so. They are no different than actors in a movie.

(42,700 posts)Gov.track did a comparison of missed votes by candidates during the one year period that ends 378 days before the election (i.e., before the nomination was won). McCain missed 50 percent during that period, far more than Rubio.

I'm not pointing this out to defend Rubio. It's just that (a) the missed votes issue always struck me as a bogus issue (we've had members miss many many votes because of illness and have defended their decision not to resign) and (b) its indicative of how bad the Bush campaign operation is that they had no comeback for what should have been the obvious retort from Rubio.

(42,700 posts)I suppose the media could call out Rubio for referencing 2004 and 2008 rather than 2003 and 2007. But even if you look at the missed vote records for Kerry and Obama for 2003 and 2007 (and even if you ignore the months in those years preceding the nomination being clinched), Kerry still missed 64 percent of the votes (peaking at missing 94.4 percent of the votes in the third quarter of 2003). Obama's record during the comparable time frame was better: he only missed 37.5 percent of the votes in 2007 (peaking at 89.4 percent missed in the third quarter). Rubio, from January 2015 to date, has missed 34 percent.
Again, my point isn't to defend Rubio. It's merely to point out that making a big deal out of Rubio's missed votes is, based on the facts, a non-starter when compared to others running for their party's nomination. And that Bush was foolish to try to make it an issue when he was unprepared with any comeback to Rubio's defense.

(7,290 posts)Bush proved (again) last night that he can't think on his feet quickly enough to be a serious Presidential candidate.
And I agree, the missed vote thing is a ridiculous point - all candidates that are in the Senate as they run for President miss tons of Senate votes.
