People say Bourdain hired criminals

http://www.eater.com/2015/10/29/9638304/anthony-bourdain-donald-trump-immigration

Bourdain went on to say that if Trump were to win the presidency and deport 11 million illegal immigrants, "every restaurant in America would shut down," and restaurant owners share his sentiment because "they’d be up the creek. … It is really, really getting hard to find people to do the jobs."

So the restaurants are EMPLOYING the criminals? This is right? then say I steal their cars, why am I the criminal then?

It’s amazing to see people come out of the woodwork that overtly supports criminal activity in the USA. Why are they even living here if they support crime. They don’t even seem to get that "illegal" means that someone isn’t following the law.

Sort of gives you a heads up that they are probably dabbling in crime themselves. All the people that I have met that seems to think crime is cool, are shifty themselves. But it’s a good heads-up. My uncle that was a cop, God rest his soul, always said that criminals are not very smart and will always give you signs they are not on the side of law. He told me this at a very young age, and I watched it throughout the years and has prove to be true time and time again. They just can’t keep their infatuation with criminals private and think others admire them as well. I don’t get it, but it’s good they give themselves away so easily before they can take advantage of you.

It must be nice to have your sole purpose in life revolve around EATING. Other taxpayers need jobs, and if pay were at the scale it should be rather than decided by the low cost of employing illegal immigrants, you might have an argument. I myself can cook many ethnic foods, simply by following a recipe. You just want to pay bottom dollar to illegals rather than fair pay to Americans. I will no longer watch your show.

You should post this under the heading "Immigration" or "Immigration reform" also. Let’s get the conversation going!

If tony was sober long enough to even figure out who was running and what their platforms are. If his buddies are, in fact, ILLEGAL, then his buddies in the restaurant business should be fined for hiring them in the first place.

1. The point is there are millions of jobs many Americans won't

and don't do. I have done those jobs. But not enough Americans do. The reality in the US is that the economy depends on at least 10 million of the 11 million undocumented. Them's the facts. Obviously Bourdain hit a soft spot in the Republican belly from the comments.

financial collapse if Trump gets elected and starts to deport part of the backbone of the country. Give them a path and pay them the improved minimum wage.

working conditions than it is about the nature of the work itself.

Sad that people who knew that perfectly well when Bush was talking about jobs Americans would not do no longer seem to know it.

Sorry. I can't grant Bourdain's pronouncements a lot of authority.

Wage theft, subminimum wage and failure to pay OT wages are rampant in the restaurant business. That is why this industry relies heavily on undocumented workers. People with a choice would not take the jobs.

restaurant workers come from countries to the south, one especially, far better than the typical American-born who just don't come in expecting to work that hard. His type of restaurant kitchen is not for the refined or faint-hearted; it's a tough, macho place where rude and crude guys pull stuff out of cooking grease with their fingers while plating like well-oiled maniacs.

He's never worried about the opinions of the sort of people spouting off here, or any lay person's that much, as reading one of his autobiographical books reveals very clearly. I notice even the cooking subforum at "Eaters" doesn't have much discussion of, like, cooking; it's apparently for customers. I'd enjoy seeing one of these guys try 15 minutes in one of Bourdain's old kitchens, though.

even though poring over papers is more my thing. I applied to move from server to cook trainee once, but I was a teenager and the cook was very unimpressed by my naive explanation that I wanted to "learn to cook." Would you have worked for Bourdain, do you think?

a shift in a high end restaurant like Bourdain's. Maybe as a dishwasher perhaps. I liked being a dishwasher.

But for Bourdain a good restaurant was a lot later. In his druggie days he worked in ordinary kitchens. I think I would enjoy a brief stint as a dishwasher in a fine restaurant. Out of the way but hopefully still plenty to see. And eat.

11. "So the restaurants are EMPLOYING the criminals?"
Fri Oct 30, 2015, 05:26 AM

No, the restaurants are hiring undocumented foreign nationals. They entered the country at a non-approved entry site, which, by itself, should be on par with speeding or parking where you shouldn't. Unless they then go on to commit other crimes like murder, rape, mugging, I don't see why them working in a restaurant should give anyone hysterics.

some restaurants like Chinese or Indian restaurants hire chefs only who of those backgrounds and yes they have to go through the complex system of visa applications.
