of Oil. We allied with Saudi Arabia because they have the most oil. Once Oil becomes a small player then the US is going to say "Fuck this, there is no monetary benefit here or resource to protect. Goodbye!" The oil money dries up and terrorists don't have the funding they need and the corrupt oil company owners have to go elsewhere to get rich and control the Gov. Not to mention because we won't be on their lands they simply won't care about us.

(19,326 posts)But then that leaves poor Exxon, BP, Shell, et. al. and the MIC 'out in the cold' too, without endless
ME wars to feed their already boated bank accounts.
I say "boo-hoo, deal with it" .. but sadly I doubt that logic, reason or common sense will prevail.
But we can hope.

(22,474 posts)of everything except humanitarian aid they might not hate us so much as terrorists would not have the money needed to fight the entire world.

That's not Afghanistan or anything else - just the war criminals, Bush/Cheney in 2003 Iraq
If they had spent $2 Trillion on developing clean energy, would they not be the world leaders in that technology and kind of set the country up pretty good for the next century. And it would probably pay for itself several times over with the dent it would put in climate change when US cities would otherwise start to drown in sea water. And the reduction in terrorism/Homeland Security expenses over those years would also be substantial. Meanwhile, the psychopaths in the Middle East would be pretty bummed out with the fall in their financial fortunes.
To me, it's a no brainer.
My Dad always said "it takes two to fight"

(7,947 posts)If we're defining terrorism as using violence to frighten people into doing this or that, I'm pretty sure that's been going on far longer than we've been using oil. Renewable energy isn't magic. You're still dealing with people. Which is why renewable energy probably won't solve our environmental issues either.
