I'm a dog lover, and dogs love me. Except one just now

This crazy fuck of an old man had a pitbull mix walking it down the sidewalk. The dog was between knee and belt high while on all fours (I'm 6'1 for reference). As soon as I was within leash distance it went into full on vicious mode, lunging and barely being kept away from me by its owner, who I'm shocked could actually hold it back (maybe one of those choker collars with sharp ends?). As I said I am a dog lover. I have been barked at by plenty of dogs, and keep my cool, stand still, look back at them, open my hand, and scratch their necks, to their owners shock. This one wasn't fucking around, my fingers would have been his dinner...

I'm not sure of an overall point here, but it was pretty shocking, and I just wanted to share some place other than facebook... I'm still a bit on edge

2. Did the owner apologize or act like this was business as usual?

3. Business as usual

He was totally prepared to pull the dog away from me (thankfully). He never said a word to me. He did say "no boy" a few times to the dog

5. I'm not surprised your adrenaline got going. You could have been attacked

by a large, powerful, and vicious animal.

I'm kind of worried about other people that dog might encounter -- like a child who was face level to the dog.

It's scary to know a dog like that is walking around, with a questionable old guy to keep him under control.

4. Crazy fuck owns crazy dog. I think I see the connection.

They say dogs and their owners are a lot alike. Glad you got away with all your digits, sounds like a huge dog.

7. Don't care at all for people walking their dog in a neighborhhod which seems to be vicious to

strangers. When I'm walking our dogs, who are the first people coming up to us? Children, wanting to pet the dogs.

9. a pit bull, you say?

was there an Olive Garden nearby? And a breastfeeding mother? Perhaps she was nursing a son she was considering circumcising? Bonus points if she was eating fried chicken with corn flakes coating

16. The fact he takes such a vicious dog for a little strole on public sidewalks

What would it have done to a small child that ran up to pet it?

That would be a crazy fucking dangerous situation, and by choosing to make it an actual possibility, makes the man crazy as fuck. I will withdraw the word "old". He was 60ish, but age is just a number

11. I had neighbors who bred pit bulls for fighting. I was terrified to go

out to my car.

The breeds are bred to fight.

I hope the owner has a policy for injuries by the dog.

18. I see a few people don't believe your story. Well..

they won't believe mine, either.

I was driving down a road on one of the local Indian reservations here looking for someone I was supposed to interview. Lots of dogs there, which is OK, and some of them are trained to guard things, which is questionable. Pretty much all of them are inside most of the time or chained/caged.

But, all of a sudden two pit bulls came flying out of a yard, as if let loose, and were bouncing off the car. Left a small dent in one fender. I couldn't see exactly what they were doing down there, 'cause no way in hell am I getting out, but a few minutes after getting off the reservation a tire went flat from a hole in the sidewall.

Pissed as I was, I had to laugh at the two Yorkies bringing up the rear trying to keep up with the pit bulls.

Just a week ago I was at another house with a pit bull. Friendly but almost hyperactive dog. Incredibly heavy and powerful. When he jumped on me and pawed at my leg I had never felt any animal as powerful as this dog. Those doggie paw swats you get as a hello? This one felt like a club-- I can't imagine the destruction if he was pissed.

And don't get me started on the friend of mine who was riding his bicycle a few years ago and ended up in the hospital when a pit bull came flying out of a yard and knocked him off. There were people around who pulled the dog off but he still spent time in the emergency room.
