'Game of Thrones' author slams Donald Trump as 'wrong, wrong, wrong'
George R.R. Martin has weighed in on the debate over Syrian refugees.
The Game of Thrones author doesnt want to keep people who are fleeing the worn-torn country out of the U.S. any more than Jon Snow wants to keep Wildlings fleeing White Walkers from coming south of The Wall.
Martin posted the Emma Lazarus poem The New Colossus, which is afixed to the base of the Statue of Liberty.
The words on her base represent the best of what this nation of immigrants is all about, Martin wrote on his blog. One has to wonder if all the governors (including our own governor here in New Mexico, I am ashamed to say) and congressmen voting to keep out the Syrian refugees have ever visited the Statue, or read the words on her base. If so, they surely failed to understand them. Emma Lazarus had it right. Donald Trump and thirty-one governors have it wrong, wrong, wrong. The Syrian refugees are as much victims of ISIS as the dead in France. Let them in.
Martin also labeled the post with his current mood, which is angry.
In the wake of the devastating Paris terror attacks on Nov. 13, 27 Republican governors have written to President Barack Obama asking him to suspend all plans to resettle additional Syrian refugees.
HBOs Game of Thrones is coming off winning the Emmy for best drama series for its fifth season this year and will return next spring.

Republicans Earn Bonuses for Exceeding ISIS Recruiting Goals
WASHINGTON (The Nil Admirari) - Today, the Islamic State (ISIS) announced many prominent Republican politicians - including many GOP presidential candidates - will receive cash bonuses for exceeding ISIS's recruiting goals. The Islamic State explained Republican opposition to Syrian refugees being allowed into the United States was "a wonderful way" to help the religious-extremist organization recruit even more Syrian civilians, who were essentially being held hostage inside their own country.

The ISIS official added, "Speaker Ryan is getting a $150,000 bonus for his efforts, and many Republicans in Congress will be receiving a $15,000 or $30,000 bonus. They'll get the higher amount if they are also urging more direct American military action in Syria while they tell Syrian civilians to stay where they are in the kill zone."

(37 posts)Exactly how does refusing to accept refugees from Syria improve the recruiting efforts for ISIS?

(12,646 posts)Children in ISIL/ISIS areas are forced to live under their "schooling". It's a common experience; children will be indoctrinated by whatever a radical force occupies a territory and families can't flee. Syrian children whose families can't flee become ISIS members, dead, or slaves.
Likewise, the collective punishment of Syrian refugees by turning their situation into some sort of political crusade against Islam plays into the propaganda pushed by the radicals that it's an Us or Them situation; if you don't want to be forced to give up your culture and religion, your only real option is sectarian warfare.
Martin is a historian and his comments are based in historical patterns.
