Internet trolls ISIS by photoshopping rubber ducks on their propaganda photosThe posters trolled the Islamic extremists by dubbing the effort "Allahu Quackbar," mocking the battle cry of "Allahu Akbar," the Arabic phrase meaning "God is greatest."
The satirical Photoshopping began on the online image bulletin board 4Chan and has since spread to Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms, The Guardian reported.
Some users have started adding toilet bowl brushes and other bathroom items to replace the weapons wielded by the duck-headed militants.
The Islamic State has relied heavily on social media propaganda to attract vulnerable young recruits and spread terror. Earlier this week a new report from George Washington University revealed that as many as 300 Islamic State "ambassadors" are operating inside the U.S., using social media to recruit fighters.

(10,007 posts)Similar to the Judeo-Christian "amen." By mocking it, these people are insulting many, many more people than just the tiny percentage of Muslims who are involved with Daesh.

(10,007 posts)I have good friends who are Muslim, and even though I disagree with their religion I don't want to insult them for it.
I don't agree with Judaism, should I insult Jews?
I don't agree with Hinduism, should I insult Hindus?
Of course, we have free speech in America so anyone can insult whomever they like. I choose to not insult people for their beliefs, because it makes me a better person.

(7,804 posts)If the religion is stupid, you may mock it. If the people are stupid, you may mock them.
If the people following the religion get annoyed with you for mocked other VERY stupid people who ALSO follow the religion then they are stupid too and may also be mocked. It isn't a particularly nicething to do, but if the things being mocked aren't very nice either, who cares? These are adults. They blow people up and shout "God is super-nice." That is a very stupid thing. It's not really comparable to Judiasm or Hindusim, because Jews and Hindus don't generally blow people up and say "God is extra-cool dontcha know", which would be a really stupid thing to do. Lots of people who think Islam is the kick like the blowing up of things. I think it's bad. If Jewish people or Hindus thought posting dead puppies through people's letter boxes with notes attached to them saying "Shalom!" or "Kali is totally awesome" was a great idea I would also mock them, but they don't seem to be doing that.
Look, just because Islam is a religion doesn't mean it gets to partake of some indefinable cool and lovely niceness, m'kay? If it does dumb things, we're allowed to say it's dumb. You seem to thing "religion" = "beyond our ken and worthy of respect" - it doesn't. The niceness of the religion depends on the religion under discussion and Islam's niceness isn't particularly obvious.

(10,007 posts)I don't want to contribute to the Two Minute Hate, even in a small way. Adding to the "Islam is evil" cultural meme encourages idiots to do stupid things like parade outside mosques with assault rifles or murder Sikhs because they can't tell the difference between turban-wearers.

(7,804 posts)OK, we part ways here. You seem to be coming from that place that is completely invisible to me where nasty things said about other things are added to a kind of feelingness soup from which humans gain their ideas, which is so amazingly weird as an idea in itself I have no idea how to begin explaining why it's wrong without being incredibly insulting to you.

Anyone who has been around here for a while can spout numerous phrases that are insulting to christians.
What are you doing about that?

(7,753 posts)You cannot "insult" an idea or a belief.
You cannot 'offend' people, people choose to 'take offense'. So what? That says more about them than it does about you.
If the stuff you believe in seems quite ridiculous to others but has great meaning for you then that belief should make you immune to mockery; if it doesn't then it's not worth your time.
You can bow down to any supernatural being you want but you can't expect everyone else to bow down to it, too. Some Muslims and some Christians need to learn this.

Oh,
Did you know Jesus was a member of the Village People?

(45,319 posts)Neither is a blessing. One is an affirmation of agreement and the other a direct statement of worship. A salam, alaikum, like shalom alachem, means 'Peace unto you' and that is a blessing.

Rhetoric does not get you anywhere, because Hitler and Mussolini are just as good at rhetoric. But if you can bring these people down with comedy, they stand no chance.- Mel Brooks/

(2,154 posts)They are mocking these specific terrorists use of it as a battle cry by photo shopping the actual photographs of them being terrorists. It's my understanding that the Muslim religion does not support ISIS and their actions, so I don't believe mocking ISIS by targeting their use of Allah Akbar as a battle cry is a slur against the actual religion.
