"Ain't No Homo Gonna Make It To Heaven"
A four-year old is well-tutored in the love and compassion of Jesus.
Christian Love: It's apparently an actual song and not only did they teach it to a four year-old, they proudly brought him up to the pulpit to perform it, generating whoops and a standing ovation from the congregation. Praise! Glory! Hit the link for the video http://goodlawd.com/goodlawd-kid-sings-aint-no-homos-gonna-make-it-to-heaven-in-church-video/ if you can bear it.

Nothing surprises when it comes from fundamentalist churches. Nothing.
WOW Some people are Just insane, and you wonder why we can't move forward?

(20,043 posts)haters have some competition.
More proof that hate/bigotry is taught. You're not born with it.
I hope these so called 'good christians' are proud. I consider myself a person of faith, and I was never taught this nor would I teach it. Just the opposite, in fact.

(22,340 posts)of which religious beliefs it is OK to make fun of? I get a little confused sometimes.

(22,340 posts)Very frequently when an atheist makes a comment on DU about religion, we are told that that isn't cool and that mocking one's religious belief is not something that should be done on DU.
Now we have a thread where people are gladly hopping on the wagon to mock the religious beliefs of these people. Much like what often happens with Mormons and Scientologists.
I'm just trying to make sure I have an accurate list of which religious beliefs it is OK to mock.

(22,457 posts)Sorry, I was way off!
You are right, if the religion says "eating meat on Friday is a sin" and we make fun of it then we are attacked.
If they attack Gays we can make fun of them.
I agree. Makes no sense.

(42,290 posts)It's hatred, couched in a thin veneer of religion. Jesus didn't preach hatred against gays. He never even MENTIONED gays.
So calling this "religious" is a crock.
And we're free to mock ANY belief that espouses or leads to to harm to others.
Logical
(22,457 posts)You cannot pick and choose what YOU think is a religious belief.
The church decides what to believe. NOT YOU!
So mocking this is no different than mocking any religious belief that someone thinks is wrong.
Most religions thinks sex outside of marriage is a sin and will send you to hell. Can we mock that?

(52 posts)While we are certainly within our rights to disagree with the teachings and actions of this group, you put yourself in the same box with them when you judge them. It makes us no better than they are.
On the other side of the argument, ever notice how these folks seem to pick and choose which verses of the Bible they'll follow and dismiss the ones they don't agree with? Seems to me that if you're going to hold up a 2000+ year old manuscript as the way to be, you should follow the whole thing.

(22,340 posts)If it is mean and nasty, according to you, then it isn't religious belief.
How convenient.

(27,787 posts)Now ... I tend to use this simple rule as to which religious beliefs I mock ...
There is no good reason for me to mock a religious belief that you hold, so long as you do not try to use that belief to attack or limit the rights or freedoms of others who do not share your religious belief.
And so ... you have a religious belief which causes you to not eat bacon ... fine. However, if you try to impose that belief on me, and prevent me from eating bacon, then you are going to get mocked.
In this case, we have a group of religious people who actually believe that they know who gets to go to heaven, and who does not. They taught a child who is too young to know what a "homo" is, to sing a song indicating that the "homos" don't get to go to heaven.
Not only is mocking them ok ... I'd also support open and repeated public ridicule. As soon as you decide that you get to be the arbiter of morality, you and your belief system become fair game.
Again, I don't seek to mock the religious ... but I don't think anyone should be afraid of calling them out when they cross certain lines.
When I was younger, the Baptist leaders I knew thought that they were above reproach. They could say anything they wanted. They could condemn you to hell. And they drew power from knowing that no one would challenge them simply because they were the moral authority on all things.
But boy do they scream when challenged.

(82,849 posts)One of them is Bret Hesla's "A Dazzling Bouquet":
I know it's true 'cause I got through the door
We are a dazzling bouquet of every kind of flower
Jump in the vase, 'cause we got space for more!
Come on, all you six-foot gladiolas
Come all you purple lilacs shining bright
Come, let us all bloom together in the garden
A carnival of fragrance and delight.
Mine is the church . . .
We don't simply tolerate each other
We ask and tell, we don't just turn away
We give attention to every bud and blossom
Let every face come grace the grand bouquet
Mine is the church . . .
We don't quite give it the zydeco treatment it deserves, but we make up for it in gusto.
