The conservatives and libertarians provide nothing but rot -- not one post I read helped me understand their POV or made me want to learn why they "feel" their outrage at Democrats and "big government."

Yes, there are some conservative posters there whose posts are a complete waste of electrons. But there are also a good few who are capable of holding up their end of a civil, substantive discussion. You don't get that here, for obvious reasons. DI requires a well-maintained, properly attenuated bullshit filter and there's some nastiness and incivility...but can anyone look at GD: P and honestly say we're any better in the latter regard?

Just as I find it the pinnacle of time-wasting for conservatives and wingnuts to troll progressive sites, it doesn't do much good to get in the mud with crank magnets. I can't deal with people who talk in Cold War snarls and Randian boilerplate.

which is pretty funny since I think I've made about 10 posts there ever, and hadn't logged in there in weeks (or maybe months?).

So I figured it wasn't going well and promptly found something else to do.

There were some* opinions I didn't agree with, some obvious trolls**, and it was a bit slower. But at the same time I saw some good threads and thoughtful comments. All in all, it's a lot more like here than perhaps people (are willing to) recognize.

* OK, a lot.

** I will note that the most egregiously deliberate jackassery was coming from one or two people that I took to be displaced DUers, flinging a few turds during the downtime.

I seems like 50% of those here are just Discussionist trolls, DU was a much better place before the powers that be created Discussionist
