(7,318 posts)site. They made a financially viable safe-haven for conservatives (DI) who were being tombstoned here. I think they should also create a safe-haven site for the majority of the 89% of DUers who are Sanders supporters, who would like to work on progressive policies without having to deal with the flak from the much more conservative Clinton supporters. Progressives want to take back the Democratic Party from the corporatists and third-wayers and need a good forum site to work within, a site that the Skinner team could provide us. A win-win-win.
More like a ProgU bug-in bag

No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up.

I always wondered about that owner.
leftstreet
(36,103 posts)I've seen this happen over and over. As primaries get closer, the inevitable alternative "progressive" or "left" forum starts...pulls in left-leaning members from DU...then busts.
So DU basically loses a bunch of strong left voices. Very sad, but very deliberate.
merrily
(45,251 posts)It started up around the time DU 3 was starting up. It got a lot of people who were grumbling about not wanted to switch to DU3. Had another site started then, it might have captured those people and still be going. Instead, LU captured a lot of those people, the the owner abandoned it a few months after DU3 was up and running. Coincidence? Could be. Seriously, the only excuse I could think of that would have been honorable was if he had died. I know that is extreme, but I can think of nothing else. He asked for volunteers for mods, but refused to appoint any, a whole bunch of stuff. One of the posters even offered to buy the site from him. No response.

(12,977 posts)They mainly seemed to consist of gripes about DU which weren't very interesting. That plus a lot of recycled conspiracy theories that were no longer allowed at DU. An alternative board would need to have something positive and different to offer and not just negativity.

I once lived in the south - painting with a large brush I found the Dems there are very different from those in the northwest
My question - do you understand the core difference?
Tarheel_Dem
(31,232 posts)We do things differently in the South, sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes it's not. We have a very strong evangelical presence here, and I think that is less true of the northwest. Even Democrats in this region are very religious, even if they're not religiously affiliated.
Bernie will be much less acceptable here in the South, for many reasons, but the Socialist thing is not a net positive for him.

(24,544 posts)DU's numbers have been in the shitter for years, blanketed by the impotent rage of the "anarchist left" or whatever these people are. Massive numbers of people have said for years they'd never recommend DU to any of their Democratic friends because of how unhinged and divorced from reality too many of the posters are here.
Perhaps if they did leave, maybe actual Democrats would return. Wouldn't that be nice?

(1,701 posts)I would like to say, though, that things are getting nasty here. I remember how emotional people got during the primary battle between Hillary and Obama and it feels worse to me now. Can't we all try to support our preferred candidate without becoming vituperative about the other Democratic candidates and, especially, one another? We're all adults here and we all want what we think is best for our country and the world. Things both here and abroad are very bad now--in fact I can't recall as bad a time as this in terms of violence and general barbarism occurring everywhere. Let's try to be a little kinder to and supportive of each other despite our disagreements. Is that too much to ask at this holiday season?
