On January 30, 2015, a health food store in Henderson (NV) called the police after a disgruntled customer, attempting to return some protein powder, allegedly threatened to rob them. The store described the suspect to police as a black male wearing a black and tan t-shirt who left in an SUV.
As police responded to the call, they quickly stopped the first person they saw, who happened to be Arturo Arenas-Alvarez. Arenas-Alvarez had just pulled up in the shopping center to do some shopping when police drew their weapons and demanded he put his hands in the air and step toward them.
Arenas-Alvarez did not appear to understand why multiple armed men were pointing their guns at him, so one officer asked him in Spanish to approach the vehicle.
Before Arenas-Alvarez makes it all the way to the vehicle, officers realized they had the wrong guy.
Thats not him, dude. Thats not a black man in a black shirt, one officer said to another.
However, they continued the detainment. ..................(more)

solidly criminal. Is being a sadistic psychopath a job requirement?

(33,982 posts)fishing expedition in his rig anyway, maybe we might find something and our afternoon won't be ruined by a call that we can't find the actual suspect anyway!'
'Good idea, bob! Send in the dog!'
Holy shit. Those screams flipped my parent bit. If I'd been there and heard that, they would have had to shoot me.
Edit: and why the fuck are the cop's faces blurred, but not the guy they KNEW wasn't the suspect? What the fuck is up with that?

(34,131 posts)From the link in the OP: "For the purposeful mauling of their infant daughter, the city of Henderson agreed to pay the family a whopping $13,000 to settle their claim. But the family is unable to get the $8,537.69 (amount after legal fees) without a court order."

Sergeant James Mitchell can be seen unleashing a Belgian Malinois in the direction of the car.
As it jumps in, Arenas, who spoke limited English, said: My baby Ive got my baby.
After a moments silence, a panicked officer shouts: Theres an infant in that car! Theres an infant in that car!
But it was too late, the damage had already been done and screams soon followed from 17-month-old baby Ayleen.

(44,397 posts)Mitchell is a father himself, Moers said, and was devastated when his dog injured a child.
"His heart went through his throat when he finds out that there's somebody inside the car," the chief said.
Over and over, Mitchell and other officers made one point: It could have been much worse.
"The last forearm, the guy didn't have anything left but bone," Mitchell told a fellow officer.
Mitchell explained to a colleague that he released the dog so quickly because he saw his fellow officers yelling at Arenas-Alvarez.
"Yeah, we don't let the dog let's get his information before we send the dog in," the unidentified officer told Mitchell.
Medics soon showed up to treat Ayleen, and a Spanish-speaking officer arrived to explain to her father what had happened. Another officer brought the little girl a teddy bear.
Moers said he watched the videos and was satisfied with how Ayleen and her father were treated in the aftermath.
When police talked to the store owner who made the original call, they realized there had been no robbery attempt.
A man came into the store wanting to return some protein powder, but the store said no because it had already been opened. The man got upset and said he wanted to exchange his bag for a new one.
He grabbed a new bag and opened it, then said something about robbing the owner, the owner told police. But the man ultimately left with the bag he'd come in with.

(26,574 posts)I'd favor the death penalty for that "officer". And a couple million for the mauled baby.
I've completely had it with these criminals and their excuses.
