http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2016/01/01/3735483/4-things-that-were-supposed-to-happen-by-2016-because-obama-was-reelected/1. Gas was supposed to cost $6.05 per gallon.
2. Unemployment was supposed to be stuck at over 8%
3. The stock market was supposed to crash
4. The entire U.S. economy was supposed to collapse
I would add #5 that Obama would take everyone's guns!!

(1,965 posts)When those predictions were made, weren't they offered by people, who were at the time known liars and gasbags?
That's my recollection.

(182,785 posts)Remember how the Central American children were supposed to bring disease and ruin the schools?
Remember how Ebola was going to be the death of us all?
Remember how ISIS was going to invade across the Mexican border?
Remember how Obamacare was going to cost jobs and be the end of our health system? Doctor shortages? Death panels?
Remember (how many times now?) OBAMA was going to take all the guns?
Etc. Etc. etc.

(52,204 posts)in terms of stock market performance, we went from the worst two-term presidency ever to the best two-term presidency ever.
the stock market is not a perfect reflection of the economy, but certainly they are highly correlated.
especially given the obstruction and sabotage from republicans in congress, obama's done an amazing job.
the right-wing, partisan bias in the media is astounding.
yes, i get that the gains in the economy are not distributed ideally. but that was also true under reagan. do the media treat obama and reagan equally? hardly.

(34,136 posts)The morning after the 2008 election I got a call from a "concerned citizen" who was paranoid about the Obama volunteers that had stopped by his house at 5 PM the day before. He was worried because after he told them to "get the fuck off his property" they sat in their car "making notes." He wanted to know if they were adding his name to a list of people who would be "monitored" once Obama was sworn into office.
He called me since as team leader my home number was on the internet. He lived on the other side of the county so whoever stopped at his house wasn't in my team. It took both me and my husband nearly an hour to talk him down and reassure him that Obama would not be "monitoring" people just because they didn't vote for him or because they had gun racks and NRA stickers on their trucks. He was really worried that he should hide his guns though it helped that I told him I wouldn't let anyone take MY guns, either.

Tell me he didn't really say this
They are lunatics

(34,136 posts)He was sure that the Obama volunteers were putting him on a list to be rounded up later. That's why I didn't just hang up on him - as upset as he was I wasn't sure if he might work himself into doing something violent. By the time I got off the phone with him I think/hoped he was calmer and less paranoid.
It helped that I knew some people out his way - some of the horse people I did business with were neighbors of his. Also I went into the voter software and checked to make sure no new information had been added on his file. I explained to him over and over that all we were doing on election day was reminding people to vote.
