Today a local business owner opened up in a long conversation in a multi-topic/life summary way. He started by saying that before he went into business for himself he had retired from a nationwide chain, owned by a wingnut Fundie. This Fundie would be familiar to most DUers, among several Fundies who have gained notoriety for having opposed one or another Progressive societal changes over the past seven years.
The local dude said that he himself had attained a big deal position in the Fundie's business, his office having been seven doors down from the Fundie's at the headquarters. Beyond the national issue the Fundie came to be known for negatively among us DUers, the local dude added a couple of other, personal quirks: That the Fundie totally abhors tattoos and refuses to hire anybody who has them (visibly?), no matter what a talented employee this might be. This much is not that unexpected. But the catchy part was that the Fundie is a total Luddite, who has been begged by the top managers to computerize the business to no avail, that the multi-million (billion?) inventory and organizational finances have to be line-item accounted, and that it is in the Fundie's Will that if his heirs ever attempt to computerize they are to be removed from the business and the Will.
Maybe this is ho-hum, well known.

(4,509 posts)I was hired for a temp holiday job at HL 20 years ago. This was of course many years before the current controversy or I would not have even applied. In the same interview in which I was hired, I was also told that when I attended church on Sunday morning, I needed to have the pastor or assistant pastor write a note saying I was present. I would then be paid by HL for the 3 hours I was in church.
Oh hell no....
I told her I was sure one of the monks would have no problem doing that. Monks? she said - Yes, I explained, I was a Buddhist. Good Lord you should have seen the look on her face. It was like she had just encountered evil incarnate. Before she could pick her jaw up off the floor and close her mouth, I told her today was her lucky day, I no longer wanted the job. Before she could say anything else or I lost my composure, I left.
Luddite? not sure. But I would bet you don't get hired there now unless you are outwardly proclaiming to be a Christian by wearing a cross or carrying a bible with you to the interview.

It is a real nasty piece of work, if you don't cherry pick and take it as a whole.
